Anyone recommend a size? I have a large section of our property to clear and level, and I'm thinking the box blade is the best bet. I didn't realize how lumpy it was until tonight...it was previously used as a deer pen by the previous owner for the last 10 years or so. The soil is fairly hard clay. I originally thought I could use the FEL but now that the ground has dried out I don't see it happening easily.

Thoughts as how well a box blade will work for this?

I see that Kubota makes a 42" and a 48" for the 24, so I guess I've already answered that part of the question.

I actually have a 48" box blade for my MF GC2310 which is very similar to the BX24. I have nothing but good things to say about the box blade. Works like a charm. I actually plan to smooth and regrade about 1/2 acre orchard to be tomorrow. Your BX24 can handle the 48" and don't let anyone tell you any different.

I have a 48" woods box blade. The BX pulls it without any effort. large roots are all that slow you down. have fun, Dave

I have a 405lb 48" scraper for my BX24 and it works great. I'll second the root comment, and don't forget about the big rocks, either.

looks like I will end up at TSC by next weekend then, these things seem hard to find used.

I have a Gannon (now owned by Woods) 42" box blade for my BX2200. My hard adobe soil is laden with glacial morraine, vitrually cemented together, and I think it's about the toughest conditions one could face excepting bad roots. Even when I rip first with the subsoiler (which is difficult and requires a lot of ballast), the box blade stalls out and won't go-too many points of friction. Even if I had weighted tires and put suitcase weights on the front, I don't think it would help. I just can't get enough tractive hp to overcome the multiple points of resistance. I think my Gannon is heavier than Barry's (1 post above this one), who lives near me. I would recommend you think about your own soil conditions and listen most carefully to the responders whose soil conditions most resemble your own. It surely sounds as though box blades work well on a BX for people who have better soil conditions than I. I'd sell you mine cheaply if you were close enough to come get it. Good luck.

Try tipping your box blade back and lower the rippers so that they just skim the ground about 1/2 inch to 1 inch deep. With the BB tipped back it will ride on the rear blade and just pick up what the rippers work loose. This has worked for me on hard packed dry clay and gravel.

Unless you have some pretty loose sandy soil don't go any bigger than 48"
