anybody ever use a box blade for snow removal? I have been using my back blade but I was thinking my box blade might work good for a few inches of snow. Thoughts?

Why not? I've got my boxblade strapped on ready to go. I did a search on older posts and there were quite a few who do it. More ballast too!

I definately would not use it on a gravel driveway unless you want a huge pile of stone in the spring. It's weight might cause a problem on blacktop or concrete. There is a current thread on abs pipe that you might want to check out. I think it is in the attachments forum, but if you do a search you will find it. If you put a piece of pipe over the blade, it might work well for a paved/concrete driveway.

I used it my first year before I got my back blade. It's doable. Just slower than a blade since you can't windrow but driving backwards you basically have a dozer blade 5 feet wide which still beats a shovel.

Yeah I tried mine, just fooling around to see if it would work, and it did. Like already said, definitely better than shoveling.

It would really shine for pulling snow out of a closed in area, like with walls or buildings on 3 sides. It is a box so it'll hold alot more than a blade before it spills out, there's a reason those pusher boxes are so prevalent now in commercial snow removal.

Yes I use mine for snow also,, just tip the cutting edge so your not digging and keep it up a bit on gravel. I'll tip the cutting edge down just a hair on pavement you want scraped. Its not real good for long runs in deep snow, but these little ice maker storms we have had here so far I think the box blade works very well and so far this year I've used it more than the front blade. I pull the scarifers out to give it more volume and makes for easier "dumping". Takes some practice but you get the hang of it.

why not? In our part of the world, almost anything goes when it comes down to moving snow. Our snow falls most of the time are measured in feet, and a shovel just doesn't do anything for me. A box blade, and rear grader blade is only as good as its operator. Be smarted than your equiptment and let it do the work for you. Dad says, "work smarter, not harded!"

Yes it works great on little nuisance snows. It is much faster to clean my parking area i can pull the snow to one spot and push it up with the plow.
