Buying Advice Box blade for John Deere 4100

Hi,

I have been searching the forums for a while trying to figure out what size box blade to get for my JD 4100 (20 hp). I am leaning toward a 60" to get a little more done at once. The width of the tractor at the back tires is roughly 46-47" so a 48" blade would be cheaper and would just barely clear them.

I have called around and 2 dealers sell Dirt Dogs for $675 for the 60". TSC has their County Line brand for $559 for the 60". And there is another place that I'm going to check out that has a 60" for $525 but I'm unsure of the brand.

This will be used on my ~700ft dirt/gravel drive as well as smoothing some washout areas and other general landscaping.

If anyone has advice on brands it is welcome as well. I wanted to keep the budget around $600 though.

I think your 4100 would have the power to handle a 5' box blade. I have some experience on one and it defiantly had the torque to pull it.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy a TSC box blade. Go to a dealer and get a quality blade. Woods is in my opinion the best attachment maker, Land Pride is right neck and neck with them. Of course you pay more for them, but you get what you pay for. You want a nice hefty blade with a curved cutting edge or you won't be able to dig into the ground like you'd want to.

It could handle a 60" in some conditions but a 54" might be a better choice. I like the Cammond boxblades in these small sizes and a BB54 would be my model of choice.
