I thought I heard they were for smaller wood and helps because the wood wont pinch the bar. ???

I used one for years and loved it BUT you have to be careful. The cutting is done with the end o the bar and it can get you if you are not careful. My uncle had one on a saw that would not idle and he wanted to finish up so he kept gunning the motor to keep it going. It caught on a little sapling and the running chain came up against his face/ eye. They had to operate on him to get it all back together. That said if I lived in a house I could put a wood stove in I would have another bow saw set up in no time flat. They are so easy to cut with, you don't have to lean over just cut with the end of the bar. You need another saw for big stuff and the fell the trees, ( bow saws won't pinch and you can cut a tree that is leaning toward you and not notice.) But I have that already. I still have the bow off of an 028 Stihl and am saving it hopping I will have a use for it soon. Ed

I don't have any experience, but I have also heard that bow bars are less prone to pinching.

Just curious. Do any manufacturers still produce that type of bar? I haven't seem one at any of the Stihl or Husqvarna dealers I have visited in recent years. A perfunctory Google search shows only some used/refurbished bars. I'm guessing product safety/liability issues.

Several years back an internet search showed one or two bows for specific Husqvarna saws. Several years before that someone made a long bow that they called a brush cutter or something similar. I don't remember whether it was for Stihl or Husky. My most recent search turned up nothing but old or refurbished bows.

Last Year my Husky dealer said he could get me one for my Husky but I don't cut much wood now so I just figured I would get a saw for the bow I have one day. Ed

I think only a couple company's make them now, and they ARE expensive... They are considered more dangerous than a std. bar, and that's why they have been phased out.

That is right on both counts. Ed
