There were 50 in the group and we bought 20 of the best. The are black and weigh 1200 avg. 4-6 yrs old, due to calve in early spring. Paid $890 each average. This is the driest Fall that I can ever remember. Lots of cattle farmers are not going to have enough hay to feed through the winter and neighbors have no extra hay to buy. Ken Sweet

The weather does seem to change from year to year. Just watched the news from the Greater Vancouver area of British Columbia and the farmer's crops are rotting in the fields, wettest September in 90 years. There will be many millions of lost dollars, sure will be hard on the farmers. Early September on the north part of our 280 mile long island they had the worst flooding that anyone could remember. Several villages were cut off for weeks due to land slides with roads and bridges washed out. Hope the cows all have healthy calves. Are these milk or meat cows?

We have not had any significant rain since Aug 15 or so. There will be No fall cutting of hay and the pastures are gone. The cows are Black Angus Beef cows (Meat). The old saying around here is 1 extreme follows another, if that is the case this year, we are going to have a Cold, Wet winter. Ken Sweet

I hate it when drought forces things. Went thru that about 8 years ago. This year We had an exceptional summer, when we needed rain got it. Hay did well and the pastures are still holding.

Hay did so well we have an extra 150 rolls ... BTW great deal on those beef cows. I sold calves the other day average weight was 540 lbs and a good market here.

6 Weeks ago we sold 40 head of Black calves we had backgrounded (Avg weight 925 lbs.) They brought 1.08 and we were very pleased with the price. Today I bet the same group would be off $20 per hundred weight. That extra 150 rolls may sell well out of state this winter. Ken Sweet

And I thought I did good. I'm sure the hay come winter will disappear.

I have a fellow near me on some bottom land that seems to have to rush to get his round bales out of the field before it is time to cut and bale again. The rains have been perfect for hay here and this man's coastal fields are beautiful and clear of any weeds. I noticed last week that he was cutting and baling all the good stuff along the highway ROW along his frontage. He'll get a dozen or more bales of so-so hay from that. Hay should be a bargain here this year.

It will ship out of state for $60 a roll this winter and early spring. Ken Sweet

I drive by a weed field where they bale it every year, and it goes somewhere....

I know people feeding hay this summer in some areas, no grass at all it's been so dry. Up my way, it's was a good first cutting, then pretty dry so not much for 2nd cutting.

That is what happened here. First cutting excellent and then downhill from there. Ken Sweet
