Just received the following from my local dealer in western PA:

We can offer you the New Holland model Boomer 1025 tractor with R-4 type
tires, a model 230GM 60" mid-mount finish mower, and a model 60CB 60" front
mount blade with hitch, sub-frame and hydraulic control valve for a price of
$15,850.00. PA sales tax is additional and the amount is eligible for 0.0%
APR financing for a period of up to 60 months for qualified buyers.

myboomer.com lists the MSRP of the tractor at $11,286. I can't find an MSRP listed for the blade or mower, but by comparing prices for similar products from different manufacturers, it looks like they are quoting me almost exactly MSRP.

Any thoughts or opinions?

I bought a T1030 this year which is essentially the same machine.

I strongly suggest you find a Massey dealer and check out the GC2400 series..... I wish I'd bought red instead of the blue.

And while there be attentive to the 1500 series compact tractors ..... then think long and hard if the sub compact is what you really want.

Seems like the majority always end up trading into a bigger machine.

glc24, the dealer is:

McGarvey Equipment Inc.

Reynoldsville, PA 15851
Telephone: 814/653-9637
Fax: 630/214-7030
Email: ruralspot@comcast.net

SARG, I'm looking at the Massey's and Kubota's also. Could you explain why you wish you had went with the Massey vice NH?

I've only got 10 acres of mostly flat field. I'll only be mowing 1 1/2-2 regularly. I've got a couple of hundred yards of driveway / dirt road I will be plowing snow from. Hopefully a subcompact can handle those things.

I'm going to be retiring from the Navy this summer (read that as UNEMPLOYED). So if I find a decent job where I'm moving to, I can probably consider this a starter tractor and trade up. Either way, this class is about all I can afford at the moment.

Hello jgun55,
When you stated western Pa,I thought maybe you were in my neck of the woods. I'm way west, only 20 min from the Ohio border. Sorry I can't help you with any dealers:(

That might be a bit high.

You might do better by shopping. Did you get a price from Messick's on an Orange machine?

And yes, as one with similar property, a subcut will more than handle your present needs.

A few items come to mind right off the bat. The Massey SC has two ram cylinders on the bucket. The Kub & the NH have one that's centered... and mine flops around. Not as sturdy as the Massey by a long shot.

The engine heater which you will wish to have is a bolt on feature on the Massey. The NH has a crappy "insert & tighten the wings" set-up. I never did get mine installed without leaking.

In order to change the fuel filter on the NH you must remove the rear tire ... not fun when they are loaded.

And I just acquired four acres that is contiguous with my property. The tires on a sub compact are just too small for open fields... especially if those fields have been worked by the larger machines i.e. the existing ruts will cause your kidneys to fall out..... or you'll get stuck if it's wet. The tire size makes a huge difference.

I am watching for an older full size tractor for the field work ( brushhog) and moving up to the compact size machine for FEL and BH. And the Masseys have 0% for 72 months.

That seems pretty high as when I was looking I got a quote on a 1025 with a loader for 14,500 CDN. So over 15 US with a midmount seems a bit much. I ended up with the 1030 as its a little bigger than the 1025. The 2030 just seemed too much for my needs. Good luck finding a tractor, lots of choices out there.

Yeah, lot's of choices! The 2 NH dealers near me didn't have any SCUTs in stock for me to look at so I was kind of disappointed there.

Took a look at Kubota, JD, and Massey tractors and now I have more questions than ever.

Mainly trying to figure out if I need something a size bigger and whether I want the front loader or just a plow. Many tough decisions!

Thanks for all the responses!
