Kubota M59
I was digging out some roots with my Kubota M59 (Backhoe BT1200) and when I finished I retracted the boom with the intention to lock it for transport, only to find that it would only retract enough to get the pins within 2" of the boom lock. It comes up and sounds and feels like it is seating in the fully retracted position, but there is still 1.5" of shiny piston road showing.

The rod does not appear to be bent or damaged in any way.

The tractor is nearly new, still under warranty.

Any ideas before I call the dealer?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/information you may be able to provide!

Bruce welcome to the forum. Someone else wrote about a similar problem not long ago, sorry, I don't remember who. I believe the issue was the cylinder. I think the system is designed so the boom slows for those last two inches into the lock position and there has been trouble with the part of the cylinder controls that.

Do a search on the forum and see if you can find that tread. Maybe someone will remember and jump in.

Hi Bruce,

MarkV is correct, I just had mine replaced under warranty for the same issue. It failed to retract far enough to engage the boom lock. Apparantly a few M59s had an internal cylinder design that is prone to the problem. Go to the dealer they should swap out the cylinder under warranty.

Mark, glad you jumped in. I remember reading about your problem, I just couldn't remember who it was that had the problem.
