Has anyone come up with a way to combine a boom pole with a carryall? I would like to figure out a way to hoist heavy objects onto my platform - but don't have extrnal hydraulics, just the usual 3 pt. (Ferguson TEA).

Check out this truck pick up crane @ <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=4006970&storeId=6970&productId=74569&langId=-1>northern tool</A>

I hadn't thought about those things; good idea. I guess I could mount it on one front corner of my carryall.
Here's another, smaller version (and the price is in Canadian $):

Here's another version from <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=6970&langId=-1&catalogId=4006970&PHOTOS=on&TEST=Y&productId=298136&categoryId=421/>northern tool</A>

I would center mount it as close to the rear of the tractor as possible to reduce the chance of torqueing the carry all out of shape. Similar to the way a boom pole comes off the three point.

The problem with centre mounting it though is that it would be harder to swing the load onto the platform. I was thinking that if it was mounted in the corner, the boom could swivel such that the load could be lowered onto the platform.
I will have to think about twisting the carryall. I think it might be strong enough; I expect mostly to be lifting motors (they all seem to be 4 cylinders) and thought this might be a good alternative to a shop crane.

Jim-W : I don't think mounting the boom in the corner would be aproblem if the carryall were grounded, thus transfering much of the twisting force to the earth. IMO Nice looking Fergie!...RayBee

I like the idea of the corner mount versus the midmount.

Consider this for a moment.

You could fold and carry the boom along the side piece that runs from top to bottom on your carry all. And if you had a reciever hitch female welded to the top horizontal you could position your boom there for lifting. If it's installed properly and the carryall is on the ground you should be able to lift just about anything plausible onto the carryall. Then when you're done you can remove and fold the boom and put it in it's transport position.

If your tractor is twelve volt you can pick up a pump and a cylinder from a tailgate lift off a service truck. That gives you a whole new world of opportunity for improvisation, my world, it's a good place.

It's pretty easy to have the project get "more sophisticated" isn't it!
I had in mind to just have the boom rest along the top member of the carry all when not in use. Why do you suggest the vertical side part as a transport position?
