Anytime one lifts much weight with the FEL, ballast is needed. Occasionally I get by without ballast. for a single operation. Generally I've found that just about anything on the three point will do. Thus I might have any one of several attachments riding back there depending on the chore at hand. I had a dedicated ballast box, but sold it.
