So, after a 10 day wait, I finally got the Blue Max string trimmer/brush cutter and I have to say, I really love this thing! It's got way more power than my $300+ husqvarna 324l ever had. The Blue Max is a 2 stroke 42.7cc and I only paid about $140 for it.

First off I have to say, the trimmer head is pretty bad and I didn't even bother putting it on. I took the old one off the Husqvarna and used it. The shoulder strap is also junk so I bought a better one when I purchase the trimmer thanks to many reviews. I also bought a 10" 80 tooth carbide blade for it. That thing goes through 2 inch sapplings like a hot knife through butter. The most impressive thing is the power of the engine. Keep in mind I've only used it 3 times so I can't speak to the longevity of the unit, but for the price I think it's a steal.

The same size Stihl is about $1,000. Yea, I'm sure the Stihl will outlast this cheap Chinese trimmer but I bet the power is about the same for about 1/7th the money. Time will tell. I'm actually considering buying a 2nd unit now. We'll see after I use it a few more times. I have a very big job for this brush cutter cleaing out about 1/2 acre of wooded area. If it survives that test I'll be ordering another one. I'll post pics and video in the future.

Here are some pictures of what the Blue Max and I did today. You can see it cut down a tree that was 3 1/2 inches in diameter. When cutting anything larger than 1/2 inch I always cut on the left side of the blade so it pulls away from me. The first picture is a "before" picture. This thing is amazing. I'd call it a clearing saw rather than a brush cutter. It will cut right through 1 inch saplings with a quick swipe. Larger than that and I go more slowly, sometimes cutting from both sides on really big stuff.

How is the Blue Max working for you now? My building was broken into and one of the things stolen was my trimmer/brush cutter. They left my smaller weed eaters but took the big one. I don't use it a lot but on some jobs it is handy.

Thanks John

I didn't see this post until recently and then I didn't want to reply until I had another chance to use the trimmer. Last fall I drained the gas and I've decided to do so after each use. The tank actually still had pressure on it when I remove the cap this spring. I filled the tank with gas/oil that I mixed last fall and pulled the cord a few times with full choke and switch off. After switching it to "ON" it started on the first pull and I quickly moved to half choke and let the engine warm up a few minutes while I put on the harness.

I then moved the choke to full open and attached the trimmer to the harness. I still had the old Husqvarna trimmer head with .095 string on it. I started down one of my fence lines and the trimmer ran awesome. I ran it until the string ran out and reloaded the trimmer head. with about 12' of string. I fired it back up and trimmed until that string was gone. This trimmer really goes through a lot of string when trimming around fences. I don't think .095 is big enough for the amount of horsepower this trimmer has. I ripped through some very heavy grass and it barely bogged down. I ended up using it at less than full throttle most of the time. I'm still VERY impressed with the amount of power it has. It's like running a medium sized chainsaw rather than a string trimmer. Imagine, Stihl recommend a 12"-16" bar on a 35cc saw. This thing has an almost 43cc engine! So far I still love it! Let's see if it lasts through this season now. So far soooo good!

Thanks, I bought one last fall, it is a beast. I bought a 9" renegade circle carbide blade and it cuts a 1" tree without any effort. Having a harness is a must. It is the easiest to start engine I have ever had. Hopefully it will last a while.

Update on the Chinese brush cutter. When I originally got the brush cutter I put a Husqvarna string trimmer head on it. Well, that head wore out, the aluminum eyelets wore completely through. I purchased a new identical Husqvarna replacement head for the Blue Max. The only repair I've made is to replace fuel hoses, thanks to the ethanol I'm running, I guess.

$140 for a 42.7cc cutter that has lasted 6 years and is still running like new. Granted, it doesn't get a lot of use, it's a workout.
