Have my BX2350 just over a week and put a whole 9 hours on it. Today I turned the headlights on and heard a loud somewhat grinding/clanging noise under the hood. This noise would ONLY appear when the headlights are on. The blinker, hazzards all function free of noise. I looked under the hood but did not see anything misplaced.

While bringing the unit back to the garage, the engine begins to choke and dies. Restarting just causes more choking, and stalls. Further inspection finds a blown 15amp ACC fuse. Replace this, engine starts, all is fine, but try the headlights, and the noise is still there. Too afraid to hurt anything further, so seems no headlights works for me.

Anyone know why this may have happened. What the noise may be (alternator?) and what ACC stands for. I am new to tractors, so any help would be appreciated.

HELLO,
No one bit on this one so ill throw in my two cents. On my 23 the acc fuse and the fuel solinoid are on the same circuit. The acc fuse holder goes to the wires under the seat ,which you can run accesorys [lights on the rops etc] You have a short in your headlight circuit ,which is somehow returning to your alternater, but somehow activating your fuel solenoid. If for some reason down the road you cant shut it off,it isnt getting power.[mine did this]The noise sounds like your starter trying to engage or something.Sounds to me like a key switch or something wired backwards ,i really dont know, but i wanted to hit on the why the engin died, and on that circuit.
Good idea not to do this again, you could ruin something or catch on fire.
Get this one to the dealer

Thanks Alan, it has me sort of stumped. Seemed strange that replacing that acc fuse was like magic. Prior to that, the symptom was that it would start, run a few, choke and die. Like fuel was shut down......or the fuel solenoid. Thing is, there is a seperate fuse (right above the acc fuse) marked solenoid on the 2350. Not sure its a "fuel" solenoid, but what else would it be?

My big question, seeing its sunday, and no dealer to harass. Is there anything different with turning on the headlights vs any other blinker, hazzard etc. Would there be any reason for increased activity/sound under the hood? Sounds to me like the alternator engages, or gets put under more stress when the headlights are on, as the sound goes away upon shutting them off. Sounds like I am crazy, but I swear, its what happens.

Afraid to use the headlights, however, I put another 5 hours on it yesterday. Perfect results, not even a whimper. Did not use the headlightslights, but used everthing else without incident.

Any reasonable ideas are appreciated!

In a past life 30 years ago I used to rebuild alternators and I can verify that they make (or at least used to) more noise when loaded. Also, they use diodes which, if blown, would make the unit howl and growl as well as greatly reducing the output. So if the 2350 is equipped with an alternator that could be a possible cause for the noise, therefore making you not actually crazy at all!;) :D

The dealer is sending out a new alternator. I agree its the most logical choice. I have to do the install, so hopefully that goes well.

UPDATE:

Replaced the alternator and it DID NOT fix the problem.

We found the issue:
Apparently when the lights are switched on, it also attempts to engage the starter. My guess it that it could be the switch itself, but of course it could be something else. Doubt its the starter itself, but could be a harness issue of some sort. Anyone had that problem yet?

Replaced the ignition and light switches....no fix. Checked everything one more time. Noticed that wiring harness looked pinched between FEL mount and frame. I attached a jpg highlighting the exact spot. Once that was pulled apart and replaced by the dealer, the problem is gone.

Looking back, it certainly did give me a little experience and confidence under the hood of my new tractor.

The dealer took care of it all. I purchased my BX online from Carver Equipment in North Carolina and payed the $350 to ship it to South Carolina.

If you can imagine, when things went wrong right out of the gate, I was a little worried I would be sent to my local shop that I just walked away from 2 weeks earlier on the sale side. Carver had them beat by almost $1500, and thats alot of something for MY family.....I had no choice.

Al and Terry at Carver Equipment became immediately engaged based on my first Sunday email of trouble....thats right, Sunday. First they sent me some easy possible solutions, (switches, alternator, etc) but as soon as we found that pinch in the harness, they realized I needed the pros turning the wrenches. They drove 4 hours to come back out, picked it up, drove back to their shop, repaired it, and returned, all within a weeks time.

At this point, I am happy. This stupid battery cover is starting to annoy me a little now, but I know I am a simple phone call, or email from my salesman and service manager who will go to great lengths to insure my satisfaction. :D
