Have never used a grading box or blade and was interested in the differences, advantages of one over the other. usually use my FEL for the small amount of grading ive done. also, how important is size of tractor and fwd to the process?

Welcome. The implements need to be matched to your tractor size and hp.
Please take a few minutes and fill out your profile a little.
That will help everyone give there opinions.

Each have their purpose. The blade is good for leveling loose dirt/gravel such a leveling a drive or a large area of loose soil. It will not do well at cutting hard packed dirt.
The box is good for leveling where you must cut into the soil to remove high spots. Most have scarifiers (digging teeth) to rip into the soil to loosen it so you can move it. The box is also good at moving dirt around the area like moving it from a high area to a low area to level the overall area. The soil will collect in the box rather than spill out the ends as with a blade.
Traction is important. You need to size the implement to correspond to how much hp and traction you have. Too much implement and you will just be spinning you wheels, literally.

My 2 cents is that having the box scraper is the way to go. I have found that I can do almost everything I need to with one. After using a number of different implements I have settled on a box scraper and a home made 7'x7' steel drag for smothing and leveling.

Finances allowing I would also get Top n Tilt.

I am almost always using just the rear wheels unless there is a slope or the surface is slippery (muddy, sandy, etc).

Forgive my ignorance but exactly how does it do that? Does it automatically fill the low area from the dirt in the high area? If so how?
Thanks,

It's quite simple, you lower the box blade and dig into the high spots, then as the box fills up with dirt then when you get to a low spot what you have in the box will fill in the low spots.Or you can slowly lift the boxblade and dump out the box in an area that you want to fill in. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif If you snowmobile it's a similar process to a groomer going over the trail and taking out the high spots and filling in the low spots with snow.

Man am I thick!! I'm still not sure how it would fill in the low spot. If the box is full do you dump it or does it dump itself?

I do everything with a BB. I am not sure of what size tractor a 2020 is, but, I think it is pretty good sized. If you are able to use a 60" tiller a 60" bb should be great.

Well it all depends,if you've got bumps and dips you will scrape off the high spot and the material that is fllled into the box will then just fall out into the dip or low spot as you pass over it,thus making that pass level. It's a different story if you wanted to move one end of a driveway that is high to the other end that is low. Then you would scrape down the high end and fill up your box and keep your blade close to the ground till you get to the lower end, then you would have to slowly lift up your box blade and it will deposit what's in the box. This is more of a manuel operation.
