I have access to this rusty old cement mixer and was wondering what one would do to make it run off a PTO.

I was thinking of attaching it to a plastic pallet with room for bags of cement and all the tools. Have my own mobile concrete plant.

I have one, 1/3 yard capacity. This much concrete mix is VERY heavy, so I need the loader on with some iron in the bucket. But, it works ! I carry premix concrete (cement + gravel + sand bags) in the front with a tub of water and a hose and tools. Raise the bucket for water pressure to fill the mixer as needed and to wash out.

I can make a 4' x 4' slab formed by 4 x 4 lumber or fill my windmill support leg holes anywhere I want to go. You should consider a hydraulic cylinder to dump the mix too, because of the weight transfer and where you need to stand to stay out of the pour.

Thanks for reply ZZ...
Is yours a BIY deal or did you buy it PTO ready?

Whatever you do, get that mixer on your property.
You WILL have a use for it sometime.

Mine was a PTO mixer I got from an estate sale. I had to rebuild the drive system which was a set of two rubber caster type wheels connected by a chain. You should have a good speed range: 1 to mix and stir it up and an idle speed when pouring. Double belt or chain drive because of the rotational inertia load.

If it works and you are done with it, the Craigslist market will get you a good sale price. I bought mine to make sidewalks, fix some driveway curbs, set up some windmills, make some barn aprons and have some fun. Concrete 'slabbing is a LOT of fun. My stuff has outlasted all the commercial work done here at my place !

I'd recommend you attach it to the 3pt hitch so you can have materials and water in 1 place and take the concrete mix to your destination in case you were thinking of just setting it some where and powering with the tractor. Heck a small generator can run it while sitting in your bucket or on the ground.

I had a mixer like the one in the photo for about 50 years. Inherited from my dad who also ran it for many year years.
Worn or sloppy bushings did not matter.

A low horsepower motor, perhaps 1/2, ran it just fine.

I would not want the mixer anywhere near my tractor as there is always a bit of splash from loading the mixer.
Concrete is very hard to get off metal. Look at almost new mixers at rental places, there is always some hard concrete in the corners of the mixer.

It takes a very strong hydrochloric acid to get the mixer clean. A big green cloud of chlorine gas will be released in the process.

If using the pto is a consideration because of lack of 110 volts where you will be running the mixer, get an inverter so you can run it off the tractor battery.

Sawyer Rob, who makes that mixer? I am planning on buying the Cosmo mixer, but I can’t find one anywhere within 500 miles. Shipping is going to cost me $350.

That mixer already has a belt drive and driven by the electric motor. To change to PTO drive, just pull the electric motor and replace it with a shaft with a pulley on it. Put on a 3pt frame and you'd be good to go. But, I'd put a hydraulic cylinder on it to dump also as previously mentioned.
