A few years ago I bought a house that came with this old tractor. I'm on my 4th season with this tractor and want to change the transmission oil. My manual says the capacity is 4.5 gallons. This seems like a lot. Before I go out and buy 5 gallons of gear oil can someone confirm if this transmission oil capacity is correct? Also, any recommendations for oil brands?

these guys have, probably, any part you might need for a Satoh, and seem to know an awful lot about them.

4.5 gallons sounds right. Most Yanmar tractors use 4.5 to 5 gallons and the Satohs are about the same.
