Oil & Fuel Bio-diesel fuel in Y385 engine.

Anybody out there using home brewed bio-diesel fuel in their Y385 engines? I've got a source that says he'll provide me with the fuel I need for a LOT less money than I'd have to pay at the pump but I'm leary of trying it. It would be my luck to save a buck fifty a gallon and then have to go through an engine overhaul. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I make my own bio-diesel, the problem is this, if the guy you know doesn't make it correctly it can cause you problems. Depending how he makes it, lye can be left behind if the wash cycle isn't done right. There is a lot to it and has to be done right.
Bio-diesel runs cleaner and if you switch to it you have to change your fuel filter about once a week for a month, bio-diesel will break crap from regular diesel lose and the pump will pick it up so the filter must be changed the first month 4 times.
American diesel is very dirty compared to other countries.
it depends also if he makes it from cooking oil or from seed.
I only trust my own bio-diesel, I have seen some real poor fuel that screwed engines up.

Hi everyone, I have not posted in many weeks, New job and summer projects and all. But have been keeping up with regular reading of all the posts. On this Bio diesel fuel, my brother has put a Yang dong Y385t engine in a small pickup truck ( we got it up and running about 4 weeks ago) and has been using it as his everyday driver, he started using bio diesel and claims that the motor is much smoother running than with regular diesel. (smells better too) For what it is worth. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

WOW, he must of had allot "fun" mating the truck tranny to the chinesse engine! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Any pictures?

That is pretty cool. What kind of mileage is he getting? What does he do for vacume to the master cylinder?

I know that he is getting fabulous MPG but to be honest I do not remember the exact figure. I know that he has been very busy experimenting with the truck and once things settle down I will ask if I can post the exact figures. As far as Vacuum goes he purchased a belt driven pump off of a wrecked Hummer and is using it. If anyone is thinking about doing this themselves the advice I would offer would be to wait. Dan (my brother) has resources available to him as the owner of a precision CNC machine shop that would be very difficult for the rest of us to duplicate. Many hours of lathe and milling machine work went into the adapters to mate the engine to the factory transmission. However hind sight is always better, and from his learned experiences there may be a simpler way to do this. We are going to do another one of these very soon (for me) and are planning to try a different approach to the job that may eliminate some of the machine work. As soon as Ray and Henry at Coldwater Tractor get another y385T shipped in (Hint Hint) and I find a suitable truck we will start. I will post the results and how we did it when finished.
