Bil-Jax Boom Lift

I just obtained a bil-jax, model 16000, 49 foot, boom lift (1987 OMME). It is in good shape, but needs a little tlc. When I put a gauge on noisy hydraulics, the pressure pegged my 3000# gauge. Was able to find the main pressure control valve and reduce the pressure to around 1000#'s. Bil-jax was kind enough to send a file with the hydraulic and electrical diagrams. My question is: does anyone know the recommended hydraulic pressures for this unit? The manual is translated from Danish (country of manufacturer), and does not list the pressures. Bil-jax had no information on pressures for this unit (too old). It does seem to operate ok on the lower pressures. Now for some electrical troubleshooting on the controls. I have not been up in it yet-need more confidence it will come back down when I need it to. My neighbor recommended a parachute....

i think it's a bunch of hooey that companies don't have info. on something that is only 21 years old.......

i'm sure it's to their advantage not to.......

I have a couple of neighbors I would like to give a 50' bungy to...
Working on troubleshooting the electrical system. It has numerous safety's throughout. Just get one calibrated and find another out of whack. I have thought of jumper wires.....nah-will try to do it right and leave them in the system. I have noticed a suspicious patch in the main control cable on the top boom. The cable that has 50 wires in it. Will check on that too.

Paul in VT-How are things in VT this time of year? I grew up in the Hartland-Woodstock-WRJ area.

WET...no mud season this year...but summer is starting to act like it...

Update on the Lift progress:
After three or so days of tracing wiring, I have come to the conclusion wires don't last forever. I found 5 broken wires in the coil loops on the telescopic boom. This is in the 50 wire cable that is 69' long. I am not really anxious to replace the complete cable, so I repaired the broken individual wires. Found bad grounds on the main circuit board-that would account for the wacky operation leaving me up in the air... After fixing the circuit board, I was blowing fuses.... Come to find out, the previous owner had replaced the main hydraulic pump relay and wired the positive and negative leads together under one screw on the relay. I guess the bad ground allowed it to work at times. Oh yea-I heard somewhere that the hydraulic pressure needs to be set to just pick up the maximum basket capacity (400 lbs in my case-although not my weight...), so I have the hydraulic pressure relief set at 2200 lbs at the moment. Seems to work ok. Still working on the basket leveling controls. More to come. Hope this is not in the wrong section....
