Several, all used and abused.
We've been in a bit of a drought the past couple of months and really needed some rain. The storms have been popping up all over, but then melting away before getting to my area.

Yesterday, I received 1.66 inches of rain, and was very happy to have it. My small pond was down two feet and my big pond was down just over a foot. That made it look a little better, but more rain would have been better.

Early this morning, it started to storm. Thunder, lightning and heavy downpours. I'm averaging an inch to two inches an hour. It's 9:30 am right now and my digital gauge shows 6.2 inches of rain for the day. Add yesterdays 1.66 total to it and we're crossed over into the scary amounts of water.

I've never seen it rain like this. I've lived in the tropics, along the equator, and have seen my fair share of storms, but this is turning into the mother of all rains.

The weather alerts are telling everyone to stay home and off the roads. The radar images are showing heavy rain over the area and it's just sort of spinning around Tyler. This cell is HUGE, and it's WET. The damage that will happen today will be extensive and unpredictable.

KLTV 7 News Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville | - KLTV.com has a great interactive radar if anybody wants to see what I'm watching.

Mother nature at work. That is an awful lot of rain. :( Thankfully we have a mountain range separating up from the west side of Vancouver Island. Average annual precipitation at Henderson Lake on the west coast of Vancouver Island is 260 inches, (making it the wettest place in North America). We are on the East side of Vancouver Island but our rainfall is still considerable. Don't think we have had over 6 inches in a day, hard to image that much coming down.

Last year when we had our 500 yr. Flood here in the Atlanta, Ga area ...we experienced days with that much rain for several days in a row...it can get ugly...hope you don't get water over your pond dams...that is what worried my about mine but the spillway handled it and I had an emergency backup spillway as well..Good Luck Eddie...stay safe.

Yikes Eddie! Just wait until the storm is over, the stifling humidity will set in and your only relief will be more rain!

- Flooding Down in Texas lyrics from Stevie Ray Vaughn:

Well there's floodin' down in Texas
All of the telephone lines are down
Well there's floodin' down in Texas
All of the telephone lines are down
And I've been tryin' to call my baby
Lord and I can't get a single sound

Well dark clouds are rollin' in
Man I'm standin' out in the rain
Well dark clouds are rollin' in
Man I'm standin' out in the rain
Yeah flood water keep a rollin'
Man it's about to drive poor me insane

Well I'm leavin' you baby
Lord and I'm goin' back home to stay
Well I'm leavin' you baby
Lord and I'm goin' back home to stay
Well back home are no floods or tornados
Baby and the sun shines every day

By Noon, I had 8.02 inches for the day, plus that 1.66 inches yesterday. I've been watching the radar image and saw that I was in the eye of the storm. The storm looked kind of like a donut. LOL

I couldn't resist and was dying to see what Lake Marabou looked like and what the creek was doing. Here are a few pics, the rest of Lake Marabou, I'm going to add to that thread.

It's raining again, but it looks like it's not going to be as heavy.

Eddie...
Wow you are getting rain. DO NOT need that up here in Kansas.
If you want a radar mapping system that will show you everything you can imagine, weather related.
Tyler, Texas (75701) Conditions & Forecast : Weather Underground
For regular radar click radar map thumbnail, for a lot of other information overlays and a zoom in with panning while animated select 'wunder map' under the radar thumbnail... Lots of resources if you like watching weather as it is happening.

Yep, We got over 5" at home yesterday as well. Quite a light/sound show when it started around 3:30 a.m. Heard the Navasota river was over hwy 30 and saw panther creek over hwy 30 myself. 18 wheelers were gettin through - I turned around and went home and enjoyed the rest of the day on the porch. Nice and cool in the 70's.

Eddie, it looks like the good thing about your dam is that the creek rose behind it so that there was very little fall for the spillway. That can keep your dam from eroding badly by slowing flow.

We didn't get a sprinkle here except for the ones I paid for at the end of my hose.:( I would have gladly taken a couple of inches off your hands.

Eddie,

JUST BE GLAD you dont live up on a mountain like I do...
I think I've spent 20 hours of seat time in the last month just fixing driveway wash damage!!

In the last 2 days, DOT has been up and down the road fixing and adding gravel-- such a great thing after all the rain we have had!!!

now I normally don't mind the seat time, but it has started getting old....

Later,
J

Thanks everyone. Final totals for the rain were 8.35 inches today and 1.66 inches yesterday for a total just over ten inches in two days. There is a 50% chance of rain tonight, then we drop back down to the 20% chances that we have most days when nothing happens. The creeks are all flooding, alot of roads were closed and just like always, some idiots tried to drive though the flood waters and got washed off into the creek. This happens all the time, and all the warnings are the same, don't drive though flood water.

I was afraid of coming across a snake, and was watching for them real good. I did find a snake skin next to Lake Marabou and posted that picture on my other thread.

The only wildife that I saw was a whitetail doe in about a foot foot of water, feeding on some leaves. She saw me, spun around and splashed away. I sure wish that I was fast enough to have gotten that picture!!!
