Hi, Iv'e got a Kubota L-3540 with a bucket and backhoe. The rule book says grease every 10 hours. Most of you know where I'm going---How do you deal with the old stuff? It takes almost a tube of (ya gutta hate that black stuff. Bran new sweatshirt shot) grease. I have a pressure washer that does a fair job of knocking off the big chunks, (dog thinks its a slip an slide), but just smears the rest around. Grease cutter ? Strips of rags and elbow grease ? Or Daaaaa. :confused2:

I have been giving my FEL 4 shots each nipple but I think I'll reduce it to 2 shots as so much oozes out.

I use lots of disposable cotton buds (to get into those tight places the grease is hanging) and tissues and a fair bit of time.

Well for starters, maybe not push so much excess grease out. Just give it enough to see the old grease start to move and quit. I just use a paper towel to kinda clean it up, and some of it is bound to fall to the ground. I would be carefull with constant pressure washing, as the water gets into everything including the grease joints. I am not saying to not wash once in a while, but I would not do it all the time, and no high pressure in sensitive areas. All tractors are kinda greasy around the loader joints especially. It is just a part of it, I just make sure the areas I come into contact with (like left loader post) stays cleaner so I don't get it on my clothes.

I have a Kubota L4400. I just greased it yesterday. As soon as I spot grease coming out, I stop. I clean the area first with a paper towel then a shop rag, and put the zerk cover back on when I'm done.:tractor:

Creekbend, do you have covers over all your grease fittings?Mine had none? IMHO,I don't believe in forcing water around the pins in washing. When I pulled my bucket i still had one rusting pin?

I pot the zerk covers on all the fittings of my Kubota L4400. There were none on it when I bought it. The dealer didn't sell them, TSC didn't have them or any auto supply around here. So i decided to try EBAY. I found some sellers there. Just go on EBAY, go to SEARCH, and type in ZERK COVERS or GREASE FITTING COVERS, and then hit GO. They weren't expensive, are sold in different quantities-from 6 on up-, and come in matching colors. I called the seller that I wanted, told him the model and make and they fit perfectly. I have had them on for only four months, because I bought the BOTA new. Good Luck.

I save old socks, tshirts, undies, etc.. they make great grease collectors when greasing joints.. wipe the zerk.. pump it too it.. wipe the old off.. next...

I discovered awhile ago that I can go to the Salvation Ary store and buy a bag of rags for 5 bucks. They wash and sanitize them, sort into stuff that absorbs well. I recently got a 40 lb bag, mostly little kids T shirts. I find iof I take my time, grease till it barely moves along the edges, then take time to use my rag to clean the joint and wipe off old dirt and crud, things look good and stay clean. Those joints are fairly tight, and a little grease will usually do the job without pumping in half a tube.

Napa has them and I use them on every grease fitting on my tractor.

Before greasing, I remove every single one at the same time and as I grease the zerk, replace the cover..that whay it is easier to remember if the zerk was greased or not.

We only have Discount Auto, NAPA and Ace Hardware here. I tried all three locations and neither one had them. When I asked the man at the counter at the NAPA store, he didn't even know what I was referring to. And he was the owner and I know that the store has been in business for 6-8 years. Perhaps that is because our County only has a small population-23,000- or it may be a geographical issue. Thanks for supplying the info in regards to NAPA.
