BH casting broke? Any dealers here?

So, I went down to the barn to kill some bees and noticed the door were pushed out and broken, but the lock was still attached.

I thought someone tried to break in.

I opened the doors and my BH had bleed done into the door, I was like wtf??

I went to check the pin to see if it bounced out or something.

Nope, The casting broke off, very clean snap, the casting is very grainy and sandy looking, like Heat Treat was off? or the annealing process.

Has anyone seen this before?

mmm...I can't remember when I even used it last, been a couple weeks. Mostly using rake and FEL, you would think with that big pin through 3 pcs of metal, especially how thick the Billet middle pcs is that no way could it break one ear only.
Had to of happened last weekend, because I sprayed it off last week and I would of seen the broken pc laying back there, when I sprayed the top plate off to measure it.

I assume this is the backhoe on the B2601 that you listed in your profile? Wondering if it may have happened while traveling quickly over uneven ground with the pin installed?

I haven't measured yet, but the hole on tractor that the pin goes thru "looked over size" which I have heard metallic clanks while driving BUT everything makes noise on a tractor when driving, I think there is too much clearance and the pin, is constantly impacting like a air hammer and the steel pin and steel mount is stronger that cheap cast crap.

Until I measure more I will reserve judgement on a design defect, I will list my findings and measurements. But I strongly think too much slop from factory lets it just move constantly

So, preliminary thoughts after inspecting tractor tonight (forgot calipers)
So front to back movement is non existing, due to double shear mounted bearings

Hard to see in picture, but alot of "pounding wear on hole" shown by blue line.

I backed out of shed and I felt the noise and sway...the wt. Moves BH an inch or so side to side, no camera and no indicator to show movement...Hopefully this weekend I can measure and video movement, with wore out tape the tractor steel part was it was 3/16 bigger in diameter, that's alot of wt. Stopping when the pin hits the bigger hole.

So I believe when I turned left to line up to barn, it drops to the right and BH slung itself to the right it broke the casting, which is why it was laying on the plate, because it leans left and forward to drive into barn.

100% design flaw in my mind, to have oversized mounting hole.

That's a locking pin for transport purposes. It needs to be oversized so it's easy to put the pins in otherwise it's a pain to put it there in the first place since you would have to aligned it almost perfectly and it also needs to account for wear over the years.

So, local dealer is ordering the casting, it's not the 1st they have seen.
When it comes in they will call and get the tractor.

Will keep updates coming, right now it is warranty covered, we will see, if not I will weigh options, it doesn't effect tractor and don't plan to ever sell.

I just measured the sway lock pin on the M59. It gets a lot of wear since we often use the BH bucket and thumb to carry rather large rocks from the surrounding mountains down for landscaping.

Pin size after 20 years is 1.0045". Holes in castings are slightly egged, 1.045" to 1.058"

So basically we are looking at a one inch pin with an impressively hard plating. It shows no wear.
Originally made to go into two holes (double shear) with twenty thousands clearance all round. Holes now worn about an additional 0.005" only in the stressed area.

That's a tight fit. The clearance needs to be tight to prevent any side swing.

If your new warranty part measures substantially differently, consider flanged bushings. Use iron- impregnated bronze to handle your low speed shock loading. McMaster has those bushings for a few bucks.

BTW, your photo of the casting looks good to me. Hard to know for sure without more examination, but my first impression is that the casting quality is excellent. That's backed up by the fracture angle - that angle shown is typical for a good quality material that is simply stressed beyond its yield strength. Basically that's a textbook fracture.

That’s your best solution. Good on Kubota.
I’d still double check by measuring the new clearance.

Looks like I will drop her off Monday, so they have Tuesday and Wednesday planned for my girl.
I would of had to wait a week for pickup, shops only 30 min. From work, so I'll take a late lunch.
