I'm looking to buy a 3 pt tiller for my Ford 1710.(rated at 25 hp PTO and 20 drawbar) Dealers in this area have Landpride, Keen Kutter, & and used Woods GTO52 (1998 looks in good shape).

Wondering what size would be too large and what brands to avoid. There seems to be quite a range in price.

I'm also assuming a reverse rotation model would take more power to run then a forward rotation.

Was thinking of bidding up to $900 for the Woods GTO52 at the auction next friday.

Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks. :)

I currently use the Woods GTC52 with an MF GC2300 which has about 19 PTO HP and it as amazing how it tears up the ground. So I would say you would have no problem using the Woods 52 with your tractor.

I have used the KK 60" but it is really too much for my tractor (although I did tear up alot of ground with it) but works well with my brother's NH TC30 and I am sure would work well with your setup.

Was wondering about the difference between the GTC and GTO. Now I see you can offset the GTO.

From what I could figure out was that the GTO is the same as the GT model with up to a 14 Inch adjustable offset. The GT and GTO are considered standard duty and the GTC (C for compact I think) is medium duty.

What do prices run in your areas? Around here it seems it can range from $1000 to $2000.

That's something I will have to look into. I don't recall off the top of my head what I did pay for mine.

I use a Bush Hog 52" tiller with a 22HP Kubota in heavy clay. Works fine. I have hydrostat, so ground speed is easily adjustable.

Mine was about $1600 IIRC.

Welcome to TBN :D! I have a NH TC29DA (23+HP PTO) and have had no problems running my CCM M-160 58" gear driven tiller. It is a solid tiller. Carter & Carter Machinery are supportive of their products and customers, prompt, and responsive. You will definitely want a tiller wider than your wheel width. Jay

Thanks for the welcome J. :)

I just got my tractor a few weeks ago and haven't been able to do any thing exciting with it yet.

Yes, it would be nice to get one as wide as my tractor. I'd need about a 58 or 60 inch in that case.

I've noticed that most tillers around 60" are rated for 25 to 40 hp. Since my tractor tests out to 24.8 HP PTO (according to a 1983 Nebraska Tractor test) I was a little worried  .

If an implement is designed for a 25 to 40 hp tractor would any of you be worried or in your experience you've had no problems with attachments with this rating?

I would not worry about your 24+ PTO HP and a 58 - 60" tiller or for that matter a 60" rotary cutter. I have used mine in heavy, rocky, clay based NE soil, and have tilled in sod without much difficulty. I do go over the tilled area twice. I would be more concerned with the "balance" of your tractor's front end with a heavy attachment on your 3point hitch. A FEL and weighted tires really helps with rig setup balance. Jay

I checked your profile and you have a Ford 1710. I consider my NH TC29DA to be very comparable to your tractor. I do not see any problems with 60" PTO driven attachments. Jay

Thanks for the advice J.

If you can get through heavy clay I should be able to get through the soil here.

Now we will see what I end up with:eek:
