Best size floor or bottle jack

Hi Guys, I have a b2920 and am wondering what the best size jack for this size tractor would be. I have heard 3 ton up to 6 ton. I currently use a 1500lbs floor jack but it's definitely too small.

I have a JD 3720 which I believe is heavier than yours and I use a 3 ton floor jack for almost everything and it really works well for my tractor because it has a high lift capacity.

I also have a a couple 2 ton floor jacks and one I just threw away because I wouldn't trust it. My other floor 2 ton might work but the 3 ton is just more sturdy and easier to use. My two tons are not the sturdiest. Nothing compared to the 3 ton.The longer handle stays right in the jack. I just twist one way to let it down and twist the other way to close the valve and start jacking. If my 3 ton would ever break, I would replace it with another 3 ton in a heartbeat. But they aren't cheap. Maybe over a $100 by now.

I lifted the whole side of my dually pickup quite easily with the 3 ton. Unless I knew I was going to lift something like a huge tractor I would not get a 12 ton.

The bottle jacks that tsc sells are very good, we used 5 of their 20 tons jacks to lift an old school house to repair the foundation. I know you won't be needing a bottle jack that big but they do offer many sizes. A jack of your size might be around $30-40.

I had the same issue. I have a B3030HSDC with loaded R4 tires and needed a better jack. I looked hard and finally settled on a Big Red 2.5 ton Quick Lift Service Floor jack from TSC. See

It isn't the heaviest jack on the shelf, but it works nicely. With a wooden block on the lift pad, it will lift the rear of my tractor completely off the floor easily (bock the front wheels!) lifting on the draw bar under the transmission. Features I liked: low profile but high lifting capability, quick lift set, and best of all, 360 degree swivel of the handle making working in tight places easy. YMMV.

Yes, the 2.5 jack is the one I ended up getting. Thanks for the input.....very appreciated. Made putting my rear chains on a lot easier

Just don't ever trust a jack. Everything that is lifted must be blocked. Use wood, use a jack stand but use something.

I can't believe the number of folks who crawl under equipment with just a jack and no back up.

I am touchy about this issue cause I have known several people who got killed. Smart good mechanics who made a tragic mistake.

Great advice. I know someone who was also killed. DON'T EVER TRUST A JACK ALONE. Most of these jacks are made overseas and ther is no way to tell just how good the quality is going to be.
