A friend sold her supper club and offered her backpack power fogger to me if I also used it to treat her house and her neighbor houses for mosquitos.

Anybody have good product ideas for use with a backpack power fogger?

Something like this perhaps?

I don't know as I've never attempted to kill mosquitos but we're all on lakes so whatever I use must be good to our lakes.

While probably not good for lakes, my buddy fogs some mosquito stuff and a dash of diesel too. Knocks 'em down and keeps 'em down. he has a large private lake.

I use a garlic based product. It is safe for pets (my biggest concern). Problem is that the rain affects it huge time.
Mossies hate garlic.

From my experience - if you only repel them, they will come back with a vengeance. Used a propane powered fogger when we built the cabin in AK and could never find a suitable product that killed and had any lasting effect.

There may be more products certified for fogger use now. Back in '76 that was not the case and I was hesitant to use just any old product. Would have liked to have used a DDT product(which was available from the military, at the time) but it wasn't certified.

Maybe a product with Diazanon(sp) and a suitable surfactant.

Its not a propane fogger. Think Stihl BR450 with a fluid tank so I'm thinking a lake-safe chemical treatment.

I like the guy with the garlic. I wonder about fogging. You're killing lots of good insects in doing this. If you want a sterile environment in which nothing grows, do your fogging with killing stuff. Otherwise, put on some mosquito repellent.

I use a Stihl SR450 with Demand CS and it works wonders. A few of summers ago it was so bad here that you couldn't go outside without getting eaten alive...and putting bug spray on constantly is unpleasant at best. I hired a local mosquito service to spray our yard, and by the end of the day it was actually okay to go outside. I wrote down what blower they had, and the exact chemical, and concentration and bought both, and haven't looked back. I can spray all of the areas I need to in less than 30min from start to finish, and it lasts at least two weeks....even at the peak of mosquito season. If I recall, it's bad for fish and amphibians, so I don't use it around the pond, and we still have lots of life in the pond...fish, lots of frogs and a couple of big ole snapping turtles (with the occasional box turtle as well).

Back in the early 1980's we built a new patio home, on a Bayou, in Houston. Mosquitos were not bad but, had a few. One year I bought a couple a bug zappers for my neighbors on both sides and even offered to install them. Both neighbors were not handy at all so they thought they just won the lottery. Put them as far from our back yard as possible.

I had an old one that didn't work that I installed in my yard for looks only.

The two working bug zappers attracted our mosquitos in both directions and we had none.

Years ago we had a family gathering in a provincial park. We rented the group use area. The mosquito's were horrible so my brothers sprayed the whole area with Malathion. Our area had noticeably less mosquito's than anywhere else in the park. The park superintendent showed up and asked what we had done. Even though you weren't supposed to spray (After all it is a park you know!) the superintendent went home with a quart of Malathion. I don't know what the end of the story was but we camped with relatively few mosquito's. The sprating was done with a small tractor and a tow behind yard sprayer.

Propane mosquito traps work. They lure mosquitos by producing co2 just like us humans and the bugs are attracted and caught. These units do 1acre and do work. They aren't foggers.
