Where has everyone been buying their rebar? Home Depot and Lowes seem so expensive. I need mostly 7'9" lengths of #3 and about 120 of them. Buying in 10 or 20' lengths makes no send due to the waste.

If that was all I could get, I would buy 20's. Then two waste ends would make another bar.

I had been working with 10' lengths and did not do my math correctly on a 20' length. I now figure I can feasibly use the ends with that cross over. Now I just need to find a place that sells at a decent price and will cut them so I can fit them in my pickup.

That would be around 50 sticks of rebar, it's possible that a steel supplier would deliver that for you, especially if you weren't too far off their regular route. If your don't have a way to fork it off they can put it on the edge of the bed and lever it off when they pull the stakes. Probably worth a call to see what they will do for you.

A steel fab shop or steel service supplier that sells smaller quantities. To buy from producer requires 20 ton mimium at least it did 25 years ago

I get my from a local small town steel dealer. They get it in 20' lengths and cut it in half for no extra $$. They're cheaper than the box stores.

No help here for you but I got lucky and found a bunch of 10ft sticks thrown out in the steel recycling dumpster at our local dump/transfer station. Had quite a few people staring at me as I pulled out about 25 pieces in perfect shape. I recycle all my paper, glass, plastic, etc that I can and always climb up and look into the steel scrap bin. Most of the time it is truly junk (BBQs, ovens, exhaust pipes, etc) but every once in awhile there is a treasure. I hate the pricing for any metal at HD or Lowe's!

Call around for a concrete supply company. Price of rebar there is about half price for a stick twice as long. There is a HUGE difference in price compared to the box stores.

I had not thought of the concrete companies, very good idea. I could not seem to find a steel company willing to deal with a moderate quantity like that.
