thank you for the direction. i have been reading things on this site for quite some time but just decided to join. i enjoy the fact that i can get real time info from owners instead of salesman and mechanics only. unfortunately i have no kioti places around me that i have heard of. as a matter of fact i have never even heard of this brand untill i came across this machine. from what i gather they are good machines. i sold a 1977 kubota l225 to get this thing. even with the work ahead i think i made a wise choice. once again thank you. by the way is replaceing a connecting rod in a tractor along the same lines as an every day car? in a matter of speaking anyways.

How do you know you need a rod?

The end of the rod is smileing at me from the lower side of the crank case.I believe the cap came off and the crank pushed it over during rotation. The tractor was still running after it happened from what i here. Just really rough. No oil or coolant galleries were hit so the old patch and weld should be fine. have not torn down yet. just bought yesterday and have not gotten it home.

Replacing a rod is just that. Access may differ from one machine to another in terms of difficulty, but the rod serves the same function. You need to make sure if any crankshaft journal damage is present, and deal with it if there is any. Same with the cylinder walls, etc. If you're saying the bottom end of the rod came through the block, and the piston stayed up in the jug, you might get lucky and be able to put a new rod to the existing piston, (possibly), with a new wrist pin, and circlip, and connect to the crank with a new pair of crank bearings on the one rod. No way to tell until it is apart. Mark everything as to how it came apart with pics for us to see. Post back progress.
