Hello to all you tractor enthusiasts. I am going to be buying a new mattress for me and my wife in the near future. Current matress is not that good.Have had it for around 6 years and it is a hybrid between foam and regular (Serta I believe). Had a Temperpedic before that and that was a good matress.

Am I going to have to fork out more big money and buy another temperpedic or is there good mattresses out there for less? Not looking forward to buying the next one but sleep and back/neck comfort is extremly important for me and my wife.

Thanks for any and all thoughts/opinions on this.

I went though expensive and cheap mattresses. My back cant take a saggy mattress at all.

I have a metal spring (not inner spring) I got for $300 from walmart.com. it's been about 3yrs and still works great. I have spent alot more money and only lasted 3yrs too.

A bit of a loaded question since what's comfortable to you and your wife might not be to me and mine. We replaced our mattress this past spring with a Gold Bond. It seems to be a hybrid foam/spring model. So far so good. Hope we get more than 3 years out of it. No-name one we just replaced lasted around 10. I think we paid ~$900 for the one we got, which included delivery and disposal of the old one. I'm 74, don't feel like huffing a queen-size mattress up a flight of stairs.

Most of the online reviews I read before buying this weren't very helpful since most seemed to deal with online dealers/models. Seems like a mattress would be the last thing I'd want to order online, especially a brand/model that's not sold in stores. You definitely need to visit furniture stores and find one you both like.

Look into a latex mattress. Not cheap.

I do not know if they sell nationwide but in Ohio we have the original mattress factory. They make some damn good ones, Just make sure you have about 3 people to help you put it in the house because they are heavy!

We have a Sleep Number for a decade or so. It's a king and each side can be set separately, wife likes soft I prefer a bit more firm. Not inexpensive though, it does deliver a comfortable sleep.

We got an all-foam (memory foam, various densities) from Coscto close to 10 years ago now. It's still perfect. Didn't cost an arm and a leg, either. I think it's a "novaform" or something.

We had purchased a fairly high end traditional mattress not that long previously; it was very nice at first but within a few months we realized we weren't sleeping the best on it. It's on our guest bed and everyone raves about how well they sleep on it, it just wasn't right for us. The foam mattress cost quite a bit less than the (?sealy?serta?idk) other one and we have no complaints and not plans to replace it.

Waterbed all the way. I've had a california king for nearly 20 years. I found the frame on craigslist for $100, then bought a new bellow, heater, liner for about $150. It has solved my back issues completely. I used to have all sorts of back problems with the memory foam type that I had for 6 months.

Unfortunately many mattress manufacturers have cheapened their products in recent years to better compete with the "Bed in a Box" mattresses sold on line. The big three "S" mattress companies, Simmons, Serta and Sealy, all fall into this category. Just because you have an older mattress that has given good service doesn't mean that a new one of the same brand will do as well. If you are willing to spend a little time to find a satisfactory mattress go to this website and do the research. There is a lot of information and it will be a challenge to sort through all of it. I did several years ago and have been very satisfied with the mattress I now have. Welcome
