I have a Kubota B7510HSD and need some advice on what implement I should purchase to turn-up my 60' round pen.

In the summer, the sand in the round pen turns hard as concrete if the wife has not used it for a while. It also get's covered with the nasty bindweed.

I do not want to have the expense of a tiller. Was thinking of a box blade or rotary harrow, but am concerned it would only scratch the surface and not dig in. I would rather not use more than one attachment for this job.

Since I currently own no implements except for a mower, would I be happy with a box blade or a rotary harrow?

What size can I use with the B7510? I would like to purchase the 5' models so I can get close to the panels, but am concerned they would be to big/heavy for the tractor to handle?

Boxblades come in many weights and duties. A good heavy duty one will work better then a light duty one. The ripprs should be able to get through most soil. Problem is, your still going to need to level it up some and break the clods. I would think a tiller would be a better option even though they will typically cost a little more to a lot more then a box blade.

I recommend you consider the Arena Rascal Arena Rascal . Your tractor can easily pull the 5 or 6 foot unit. Order the Video Tape to see it in action. Looks to me like this is an ideal unit for arena maintainence. I am getting one in late March.

Can you rent a rototiller anywhere near you? It does sound like the best solution.

I'd rather not rent a tiller since half the battle is going to pick it up and bring it back. I'd have to rent it several times a year too.

Can B7510 handle a box blade? What about a field cultivator? Harrows only work when the soil is loose and I don't want to bother with them. Too many implements to choose from and I don't want my land to look like a storage lot.

I thinl you'll end up needing 2 imp, one for subsoiling and one for dressing. Are you sure you want deep loose soil? Horse operators around here disc, then use rotary or spike harrow for dressing. The neighbor just lightly discs with RR iron dragging behind.

I use a rotary harrow for my roundpen. You are going to find that a boxblade or anything like that is going to get caught on the corners. Not matter how careful you are it still happens. If you have sand I would recommend a couple times a week going in and taking a couple swipes over it. This will prevent it from getting compacted.

I also agree about too deep of footing. You really don't want your footing to be much deeper than 3". If it is this is really tough on your horses legs. Especially if you are doing roundpen training. I see alot of horses injured in roundpens because the material is too deep.

I just called for information on the Absolute Innovatios TR3 Rake. They must be smoking something, because the price is $3,250 for their 5' model. It looks like it works great, but for that price I'll give the kids a pick axe and a rake and have them go at it. I cannot justify paying that much for a residential place.
