Belt for a FDR1660 finish mower

Hi,
I have a Land Pride finish mower (FDR1660) and have gone thru 2 belts this year. The first belt may have been original equipment and was just plain worn out. The mower and a JD 820 tractor came with the property when I bought it about 3 years ago. I bought a kevlar belt as a replacement that has lasted about an hour of run time. Granted I'm cutting a field that's almost 18" high but... I'll replace it with another kevlar belt to get the job done; I had bought a spare.

I'm wondering if kevar is the right choice. What type belt do you use?

OEM is Kevlar reinforced. Maybe cut as high as possible, wait a couple days for the cut material to dry a bit then cut it lower.
It's not really the belt's fault the grass is 18" tall. Keep the RPMs up and ground speed down.

I think the 18” stuff is killing your belts.

I have a Woods RD60. 9 years.
I kept breaking belts cutting tall grass/weeds.

I finally “understood” it was a finish mower, not a rotary cutter.

The belts last much longer when I cut short not tall grass.

When you want to start the unit make sure
your tractor is idling then engage your cutter
slowly advance rpm's to get proper PTO speed
Also your belt should not be outside of the pulley
groves should be recessed very little this makes
my belts last a lot longer. One time though getting
a larger belt that was outside the pulley edges would
last longer sure did only took 5 minutes or less to
schred it.

I have that same mower, it does best on 8 inch grass or shorter. it is not designed to cut hay.

If you can get a rotary mower, it will do much better on such high grass, after the initial cut, try not to let the grass get so tall.

OK, I get the message - don't make it work so hard. I'll do it in 2 passes this time and try not to wait so long between cuts.
