for the past 2 weeks I've spent quite a lot of seat time on the ol-1700, he just don't know when to quit, been taking down and smoothing out Bank sides, filling in holes, plowing gardens, Just plain been working him to death, well not literally,:D but he has been holding up well  I do have a question of concern, I have the FEL set at around 500 lbs. max lift. this was in effort to not damage the front axle and wheel hubs & bearings, etc, etc,
although while pushing this limit I hear a sound of what seems to be a screetch...Hummmm noise, what exactly is this telling me? I'm thinking it is coming from the Pump itself, but what is happening? could this be a sign of future problems? I had thought about opening up the flow to try find out if this will stop the noise, but then I might be tempted to try and lift more than it should, as it is now depends on the material Its lifting, an even bucket of heavy red clay seems to cause the noise, but I can lift a oversize bucket of top soil and not have the noise, Today I was lifting 4 ft x 2 ft diamiter freshly cut green logs and had no problem or no noise, Oh!BTW anyone needs some poplar logs? Free for the taking,
Bottom line is? is this noise hurting the pump?
Thanks Folks....

I have my valve set for 1500 psi on the relief valve and have not had any problems. The most I have seen my gauge go to on a full bucket of damp dirt is 850 psi. I do hear the relief valve open when I bottom out the cylinders and see it open at the 1500 psi. I did lift a tree trunk I cut down with it and watched the gauge to to 1100 psi but didn't hear any noise.

I would think the noise you are hearing is the loader relief valve opening. I would try setting it to relieve higher and see if you still hear the noise. I don't think testing it a couple of times will cause damage to the pump. My loader is a lot smaller than yours and it and the pump is taking the loads fine.

yep mine screeches also if i am busy reversing or something and hold the curl up still when the cylinder has fully retracted, its just the relief valve in the pump operating, nothing to worry about ;)
