Got a couple of deals that are really great, but as I look at specs on the two backhoes it appears the m62 is detuned some. Maybe the 2 ft extra takes some away because of leverage.

backhoes..
bucket force for m59 7602lb, m62 is 6572lb. That is 1000lb difference.
digging force of dipperstick for m59 is 4731lb, m62 is 4657lb, nothing major but still less. I use this for business and the m59 is about as slow and weak as I want for digging sewers. So not sure what real world feel will be like with the m62.

There is about 3gpm more flow on the m62 which is good, not to mention 2 more in net hp, but that could be eaten up in the dpf. Then there is the whole regen issue.

My machine is almost 10 years old (815 hours), has had a few issues, but is payed for. The new machine is pretty, has the brakes on proper side, digs 2 more feet deeper but will have a payment.

Maybe flip a coin?

What's wrong with your 59?

Other than being depreciated out? Needs new tires. What has been wrong with it? Both hydro pumps went out, split to replace main and propeller seal, just had to replace manifold gaskets, stabilizer pin broke at carriage causing a little welding work, pin broke in loader causing some repair/steel hydro line replaced. But that's it. Runs and works good.

I would guess the extra length is the cause for a drop in the dipper but not sure why the bucket curl would be less. Would keeping the M59 and picking up a Mini ex be an option. Depending on the job a mini is really handy and quick, plus would give you a backup machine in case of problems.
Just a thought....

Spec wise, I really don't think you'd be gaining much. I think the extra two feet on the hoe would be great for extra reach, and the throttle up feature could be nice, but I don't see any major improvements in the M62 over the M59.
With under 1,000 hrs in 10 years, yours is barely broken in?

That being said, I want a new M62 sitting on my lot!

With all those problems in less than 1,000 hrs why would you want another one?

Hershey, I sure wish you had gotten a better M59 from the get-go. As you know, we use a JD310 and an M59 pretty much interchangeably for our work in the mountains here & there is no way anyone would call either one of them "slow and weak". Revved up to 1500 rpm or more, with either machine the limitation on backhoe work is pretty much how much the backhoe tries to throw the tractor around and how you as the operator feel about being tossed around with it.

Best to tighten the seat belt, because at the end of the day, either machine has done about the same work.
We have about the same hours on our M59 and basically one throttle cable is the extent of the repairs.

But I don't blame you a bit. If I were in your shoes I'd be looking at a different machine too. There's just no reason or excuse for the performance that yours has given you. I think it's a shame, but there you are.
BTW, if the M62 uses the same size BH cylinders and same pressure as the M59, then the extra two feet of M62 reach and the corresponding reduced leverage would explain the different digging and bucket force numbers. I just wish yours worked better.
good luck with it, rScotty

I ran 310's for years at my job before I went in business, even 210. Then I owned a 580 for about 10 years. The bigger machines have more power for sure. It is not difficult to lift the whole machine up in the air when hooking a rock digging. The m59 doesn't have that reservoir of power. The m59 has a huge front bucket and struggles when pushing in and scooping heavy material. Full size doesn't, and I wonder if hst just doesn't draw too much hydro power, instead of the auto trans on the bigger machines. But the m59 is the perfect size for the new shrinking residential lots. 40' lot line have just gotten too small to use full size nowadays.

At this point Scotty, my m59 has all the bugs worked out. The biggest improvement was getting the backhoe check valves adjusted. Some where just way off. Getting to the ones on the bottom of the block was fun. Even though I still miss full size, I won't have any reservations keeping this machine.
