Does anybody have pictures of any mods they've done to strengthen the lock on a double-door Tuff Shed?

you got to wonder why?......

what normal lock is there is just there to keep the honest guy out.

its just a chitty plywood door. for the determined person wanting to get in... a prybar, sledge... cordless skill saw will make swiss cheeze out of the area round the lock no matter how strong you make the lock.

or put another way.... you put 15 steel encased dead bolts on the right side of the door and on the left side are 2 hinges held on by 3 #12 woodscrews....

you want something that is going to give the bad guy a run for his money..... get a shipping container!

You're right. The hinges could be unscrewed in no time flat. I'd probably be better off leaving it unlocked.

I'm not familiar with your type of shed, but when I built my toy box I put a pair of these hockey puck locks and hasps on it. Deprecated Browser Error
Someone would really have to cause a lot of comotion to break into it. And really, I don't think they could without power tools.
ETA: Weird title on the link I added, but it works. No browser error.

Thanks Fred. I've attached a picture of the damage that shows what happened.
DoorDamage.jpg
They poked a hole through the OSB, then used a pry bar to break the latch on the lock. Didn't go easy though. The strike plate on the opposite door really bent a lot. These guys were making quite a racket. Neighbors on two sides have several dogs a piece and they were all going crazy according to the neighbors. Unfortunately, nobody came out to see what was going on until they had the DR mower in the back of their pickup truck. They got that, and a couple of home made ramps. They would have cleaned the shed out, including the chipper, that was sitting outside of the shed, but were discovered before they could get it to the road. Could have been worse.

wow.... how ironic on how right i was without knowing the pics :D

Seriously.....

rebuild the doors.... full 3/4 plywood (not osb, not partical board... plywood!) Mass is your friend. 4x4 post in the door at the lock location... or 4x6... double layers of 1/2" plywood.... anything to add MORE mass between the them and the goodies... skinned with some 20ga steel for bonus points

trim it with 1x4 and paint. will look almost exactly like wood but be much more resistant to break in.

put barrel bolts floor and ceiling on the "dead" side and carriage bolt (through bolt) the lock hardware on.

Wow. That stinks. And that really stinks that no one came out to see what the racket was about sooner.
I wonder why they caused so much damage away from the lock... weird...
Yeah, that hockey puck lock would be perfect. Put it on with carriage bolts and I'd make sure some carriage bolts held on those hinges, too. I bought some huge hinges at HD and they're held on with four 3/8" carriage bolts per side (of the hinge). They'd have to use a grinder to get in.

I think I'd fix the door and then put on a big honkin' horn alarm that will "raise the dead." Make it powered by a 12 volt battery.

Like others said, I thru bolt my hinges on my sheds and the latch as well. I double nut the hasps & latches inside. On the shed where my tools are is facing the street with a automatic light on it. I've also put a section of metal in behind the latch that it is bolted thru.

You can also run a dead bolt type metal cover at the latch which surrounds the area where the latch is at.

in the long run a battery skill or circular saw will open the side or back pretty quick...

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm going to add a couple of carriage bolts to each half of each hinge. Look into adding some kind of steel around the lock and bolt a hasp to the door with some steel plate on the back side.
