Drove back from Dallas yesterday along I30 and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. You guys 'n gals in East Texas definitely have some pretty areas. There were a number of places I saw that I would loved to have had the time to just pull of the interstate and drive around and explore.

Thank you. But if you enjoyed it during the heat of summer, you should really see what it looks like here in the spring when all the wild flowers are out!!!!

My wife is from Gilmer; we were married there in 1963. I have always loved East Texas, however August can get downright uncomfortable at times. Love the Piney Woods; Lake of the Pines, etc. I especially like the Hot Links from Pittsburg. I always stop and pick up a case whenever we pass through. Not your typical hot link; there's nothing like them anywhere.

I haven't been to Pittsburg in over a year, and I didn't know about their hotlinks. Next time I'm there I'll be sure to try them. Gilmer is just half an hour up the road from me. I have friends there, but I don't get up there too often either.

August is looking like it's going to be pretty bad this year, but nothing compared to two years ago when we had almost three months of temps over 100 degrees!!! So far we've only had one day break 100.

My brother used to have a place that fronted on Lake Bob Sandlin near Leesburg. My dad grew up in Newsome. It is indeed hard to beat Pittsburg Hot Links.:licking: I sometimes think I'd rather have bought in East Texas and built my house there, but then I remember where I worked until I retired and there was no place in East Texas within daily commuting distance without going through the Hades of Dallas traffic. I guess I'll just have to go visit Eddie Walker once in awhile to get my East Texas fix.:)

Yeah, August can be very hot in East Texas and.......HUMID. My goal has always been to spend the entire month of August in the mountains of New Mexico or Colorado. I haven't pulled that off yet. We do love it out here in East Texas but August is very tough.

Jim- Newsom is down the road and Camp County is the County line we cross most .......if you know what I mean. And Leesburg (Camp County) is the birthplace of Carroll Shelby.

I've only been to TEXAS (one MUST write/say that word in all capitals!) a few times, Waxahachie, San Antonio, and drove through near Eddie's area on the way. Hey, every American has to like TEXAS.

I was born in 'Doches... :) Actually, it was near Attoyac, formerly called Blackjack, 20 miles outside of Nacogdoches. Moved to Houston about grade school age.

Recently moved from Houston area to Mid-Georgia - which is about like East Texas used to be. Big cattle ranchers have bought up most of the pretty land around Nacogdoches. Still - that doesn't take away the beautiful rolling hills of East Texas. You're right - it is a beautiful area.
