A local dealer has a Bearcat Model 77454 Chipper for sale at a reduced price. Do any of you have this model? It has a manual feed and accepts a 4 and one half inch log. How difficult is it to feed a limb into a manual setup? Does the cutter wheel help pull the limb through? Thanks for your input.

I have a bearcat 5" chipper/shreder. Haven't had any issues with it. The chipper although manual feed, once you get it going it takes the entire...most the time. if there are some thicker branches that stem off, you might have to push it to get it going again. The shredder is great too. Make sure your gloves to tight to your hand, cause that shredder will suck the branches right out of your hand quicker than you can blink. I have the blower setup on mine, and it shoots it a good distance so it won't pile up underneith. I'm cleaning up about 15 large beach trees that went down a couple years ago from a hurricane, and that chipper and the grapple does wonders. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, but I only have experience with the BRADCO heavy duty chipper...which is nice but 2k more

I have the Woods 5000 chipper shredder which is almost identical. I think it is a great unit for a manual feed unit and it seems to just suck the brush in. I strongly recommend the blower attachment. It was a pain to have to stop, raise the chipper and rake the chips out from under.

The blower makes it easy to load a trailer or truck with one less handling needed.

I have a Bearcat 70554 which is the same thing as the Woods 5000. The 77454 is a new model which is a little smaller and lighter to be used with sub-compacts.

How good is the price? I was quoted $2600 for the 70554 and $4000 for the 73554. The 70554 is the max for my budget but I'm concerned about getting it without the blower. If I have to stop every 5 minutes to clean the pile under it or move the tractor it won't be very productive. The blower is another $600 or so.

I have the 70554 Bearcat PTO Chipper. Great unit, however, I do wish that I would have gotten the blower. It is a real pain in the ### to stop what you doing to scoop the chips from underneath the blower and the piles build up very rapidly. If you can afford it and have quite a bit of chipping to do, I would recommend the blower.

Thanks for the info. Will you be adding the blower? Due to budget I'll probably be getting the 70554 without the blower and just add it later. May have to add it sooner if I find it to irritating to keep stopping to clear the chips! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have the 73454. I bought it with my JD4310 two years ago. It was the demo/rental from the dealership.. It has worked well for me. The manual feed can be rough (hard work at times) because most of what I had to chip was ~3" very dry oak. If I was going to use a chipper on a regualr basis, a hydraulic feed would be nice but for seldom use I can't justify it...
