BCS 853
I am new to the site. Been scoping it out and looking at post for answers. I have some land that is an old overgrown pasture. Small saplings ranging in size from 1/4" to 1.5" and bigger. There are some larger trees in there in places. That I plan to go around.

In your opinion with the delmorino what would be a better buy brand new. A 26" or the 32" I know a 4 wheel tractor would do this task quicker but I am looking to make roadways about 10' wide and it is too wet for a 4 wheel tractor. The difference in price is $100.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions on the better buy.

Not knowing where you are at makes a little difference. If you are cutting flat land go with the 32", if you are working on hills the 26" has the advantage of being lighter and easier to handle on a hill. The mower being so far forward of the machine makes a slight difference in weight seem like a lot more.
Also the flail mowers are really nice (I bought one) but are a bit more pricey.

The DR is a great machine but I believe he already has a BCS 853 (by his listing) so with that machine you can add a deck (actually several decks or even flail mowers).
The BCS allows attachments with one standard powerhead (an BCS 853 is often a 13hp Honda or a small diesel engine) with a QD single pin "PTO" system.
The 853 he has comes with steering brakes, Diff lock, 4 forward speeds - nice machine and does a lot of work for its small size.

I see that now. I deleted my original post. Nevertheless, the DR is a beast for its size and pricing IMO.

No worries - The DR is a good machine and it seems that most that own them love them. Im sure it is similar to the BCS in that it is a work out on the hills and rough woods but does a great job!

Yes I am on flatland. No slopes at all. I looked at the dr in the past but really wanted something that could do more so i did go with the BCS. So far love the machine. I was thinking flail but the price has scared me away. I opted for the 13hp gas engine as well if that helps with opinions. Code54 thanks for your response of the size.

I have the BCS 853 with the 32" BCS bush mower. I'd definitely get it again, slopes or not, the wider cut is nice and I've gone through thick fields with it and it will keep up.

It is abuse of these things to cut through any serious water, if you have a lot of water, you might want to go with a sickle mower instead. I'm considering getting a sickle to deal with sections of my property that keep a bit moist.

I second this; if you don't need or want to mulch up what you cut, then the sickle mower will handle large areas faster than either a mower deck or a flail mower. I have cleared a lot of brush with my flail mower, but this year I will mostly be using the sickle bar because now I have a much larger area to mow and it is mostly just soft green growth - grass/etc.

So funny, I was thinking about this, and I bet if I had the sickle mower, I'd be thinking about how I wanted to bush mower. They really both have their advantages. The bush mower does chop things up pretty well, this can be handy.

The sickle is probably a little better in a new trail where there might be rocks hiding in the grass.

I find the sickle really nice on steep where you have to crosscut the hill because the sicklebar is light enough that it does not pull the front end downhill and require you to be on the steering brakes all the time.
