Hello All,

I have a B7100 with a 3 in 1 Gannon box blade that rotates for ripping, grading and plowing. Today I needed to lower my grade by about 6 inches.

I proceeded to break the ground with the ripper teeth, I think that's what you call them, several times and rotated the blade to plow to move the loose soil while in reverse. This worked better than pulling the soil with the grader as it was able to handle more volume.

My question is am I putting too much stress on the 3pt hitch using the BB as a plow? Is the 3pt hitch designed to be used this way on my B7100? My manual makes no mention of this type of use. As you can tell I am new to tractors.

Thanks,
Mike

Typical compact tractors are not designed for high reverse loads on the lower links. Either the lower link attachment points break or the lower links themselves bend. Its fine to move loose soil, but hit a immovable or imbeded object and the load can break the typical cast iron (or aluminum in some cases) attachment points. I had a Kubota L48 that had a very sturdy lower link attachment as well as very strudy lower link arms and it was not an issue. I see very few compacts with that type of build design. Rat...
