Which one?
Anybody have a specific recommendation for a battery that will fit in the Beaver? I think I'm about due.

Appears that there is a group 56 in the tractor, I suspect a 51 is what's supposed to be in place as this battery seems over sized.

In my opinion a battery is never over sized. The colder it is the more you glow the plugs and the longer you crank.
Personally I'd install the largest that fits, besides often they can be less costly than a specifically designed for the application.
Engineers tend to use 'just enough' when designing things., besides larger will probably last longer due to the reserve capacity when it gets older as it will have worked less.

Good point on the battery size, not seeing 56 as readily available as 51. May stop down at NAPA etc to see what they have when I have a chance. I tested my battery and at least according to my load tester, it's good. Alternator is putting out enough juice (almost 15v). Going to see what happens this weekend when I'm back over there, I made sure the maintainer is properly plugged in so we'll see if I have enough juice this time. Don't really want to buy a battery right now.

Been almost a year, still haven't bought a battery but boy do I need it. First start of the day always requires a jump. Needs a jump if allowed to sit a few hours. Got to get around to buying one very soon. Winter is almost here. :D

About 6 months ago my battery gave up as well. Being too cheap to buy a $100 51 battery I picked up a 24"x12" solar panel with a handful of connectors in the box for $18 at Northern Tools. I'm sure any of the cheap import tool places have something similar. The thing is I bolted up the connectors and plugged in the panel and laid it on the seat and the tractor fires up every single time as though it was a brand new battery. Let it sit for a couple of days without the solar panel connected and you will need a jump. If it's totally dead, leave the panel connected for a day and it fires right up.

I've kept a maintainer on mine for a long time, I attribute that to the battery lasting as long as it did. I'll buy a new one soon since I need the Beaver firewood production.
