Hi, I'm new to this site and looking to purchase a machine. My question is what is the basic difference between the l3400, l3410, l3430... and so on. Thanks. Charlie

well- doing your homework by just looking at the specs at kubota.com, it appears to me that there is slight engine hp ,available pto hp ,travel speed, hydraulic pump capacity between the different L models.

I am sure there are experts on here but the L3400 is the current value line of Kubota tractor in the SCUT class.
The L3440 is the current Grand L line and has more bells and whistles and a bigger size and a bit more capability than the L3400. The L3430 is the previous model to the L3440. I would suspect the pattern repeats on back to the L3410.
All by the way are good machines.

You should go to a dealer and pick up some brochures on the tractors. Looking at the secs on paper side-by-side helps. Helps me anyway. If you post something about what you plan to do with the I'm sure people will be happy to give their opinion on what machine would fit the bill.
The 3400 is a good machine and it would be considered a no frills tractor the others are slightly more powerful with stronger loaders and other extras. That is the very basic difference but there is a lot more.

OK,now I get the gist of it.Thank you.

Six weeks ago I knew next to nothing about tractors other than the fact I had an urge for one (compact). I have spent hours and days on the web searching and learning about them. Kubota, for some reason, was my preference, and to this day it remains so.

I now have a decent understanding of size, prices, implements and capabilities...but still learning. I am now focusing in the 30-35 hp category for reasons of capability and cost. I'm looking for a general purpose (general construction and landscaping, personal use) machine in good condition. I estimate FEL (I finally figured out what this stands for, haha) would probably be 60% of use, BH 15% and various implements for remainder (mostly rear pto stuff I guess).

BH must be easily removed and installed and I think that the subframe system is the way to go.BH need not be included in original purchase but I think I will get more bang for my buck if I get right machine with right backhoe.

I'll gladly entertain all comments and opinions. Thanks

Charlie

Any of the models in your original would be good choices. I think the current Grand L 3440 and the L3400 will be all that you will find new though you may possibly find a left over L3430. You will be able to get a stronger FEL in the L3440 but it come at a price. There are a lot of good used machines on the market and if that is a consideration there is money to be saved. What area of the country are you in.

dex3361,

I'm in the Canadian Maritimes, so delivery, customs, gst (our import tax) and dollar exchange come into play. I'm definitly looking at pre-owned. The choice down south seem more abundant and I think that the bottom line on costs will be favorable. I will try to be patient and get the right machine at a decent price.I was wondering if there is a season in particular that is favorable to buying used tractors.

Actually now is a good time as any I have seen because of the economic downturn/recession. I have seen many good deals here in the states. As far as seasonally it would probably specific area.

How do you plan on using your tractor ? Is there a reason you going with a larger tractor ? If you have 5 acres or less, perhaps you could look at a BX ? Since I have a BX, the BH and FEL comes off in super easy fast time. Just keep in mind, that the BX has a smaller limited capabilites then the B or L. The BX BH can dig 4 ft nice and easy and extending the bucket pointing down can reach 6 feet but its not neat. What type of projects do you have lined up for a BH? I am sure if you tell us what you trying to do and size of lot to maintain, then you will get all kinds of advice here.

Just FYI, I bought a used CUT because I never owned one before and needed the education.
Now I'm getting a good feeling for what I'd really like, same size machine with just a little more power, but then what I have for a tractor really does most of what I need to do!
Re: the backhoe - I bought a towable one, cheaper, goes where the tractor won't and I don't have to take it off or put it on.
But then every tool has it's good points and bad so you make your choice and tell everyone how happy you are - even if it hurts!
