OK folks - I just spent the morning searching the forums for information, found a little, but not much in details. I want to do this correct the first time, and not nickle and dim. I need something good, but not over the top. I plan to have the barrel on a HD pallet with casters and tie downs for loading in the truck, and rolling in the barn up to the tractor for filling.

I scored a HD 55 gal blue plastic barrel that recently contained methanol for $10. Bungs were in place and about a cup of the old product was still in the barrel. I currently have one of the bungs out and in the sun to dry out, But what is the best way to clean - if needed before putting diesel in it? Does anyone have a source of the stickers I need like "Diesel Fuel Only" and the other warning stickers. What should I actually put on. I live in Colorado. BTW the nylon bungs are tapped with a 3/4 NPT inside thread if that matters. At least I think it is 3/4 npt.

Second - rotary hand pump set up.
A lot of brands mentioned, but Fill-Rite most often. From the search folks mention the rotary type puts less stress on the barrel top. I found this model Fill-Rite&reg Rotary Hand Pump | GEMPLER'S . Does anyone have it, or can folks recommend another and the source that might have a good price. I want to keep this simple so opted out of a 12 volt one.

Filters and fittings - in the search I see a lot of folks have a filter and swivel fitting on the pump. Some have what appear to be a water separator. There appears to be a lot of different configurations here - Can you please let me know good brands, part numbers etc and what fitting I need. Also any good sources to get everything. I want to be able to find filters locally (NAPA, TSC, Wall-Mart etc)

Vent - I know this is necessary, and TSC has a cheap plastic one. Review said it was easy to pop off and steel fuel. Are there better ones out there. Theft is not a problem where I live, at least not yet.

Any help would be appreciated

So any help on parts numbers and sources would help
Thanks
Keith

I too just scored a blue barrel will be using a 12 volt pump. I also use a Mr.Funnel to filter out water and stuff. I will store it on a skid in my barn so no theft.

Tsc should have everything you need. I had a rotary fill rite on a 300 gal metal tank, but just upgraded to the 10 gpm 12vdc for $129.
The 125 gal diesel tank, also from tsc has the lever pump, that pumps in both directions and works very well. $70 if I remember right. My outside 300 gal tank has both a water and a particulate filter. No filter on the inside diesel tank.

Thanks Folks
Best price I found so far
Tuthill Fill Rite FR112 Rotary Style Hand Crank Fuel Transfer Pump 10 GPM | eBay
Fill-Rite also has a filter set up Fill-Rite F1810HC1 - Anyone using this

Unfortunately my TCS store is always out of stock so when I looked today they only had a few items (made in China)

That Mr Funnel looks interesting Is everyone happy with theirs? How do you store them to keep from getting dusty in the Barn?

Still learning here - Thanks for any help.

If you are going with a hand or electric fuel pump, I would just put a spin on filter on the pump.
TSC carries the adapters and filters for that.

Does that not let dust inside the lower funnel?

The reason I ask is I do do this too, have my funnels up on a self upside down and when I go to use they are very dirty in the funnels, even the upside down part. I do have a small one in an ice cream tub with lid and it stays cleaner. Just wondering about the tricks.

Also where is the best place to buy a MR Funnel I think I need the F3 model for my use. Just wondering.

For just a few dollars more than the rotary pump, you can get an electric one, either DC or AC if you have power.
I got my entire set up for $350 off Craigslist which in addition to the 100 gallon tank and 15 GPM Filrite DC pump, it came with spin on fuel filter, 20 foot of 3/4" hose and an auto-shutoff nozzle.
I had previously bought one off Craigslist for my brother in law with same setup without the auto shut off nozzle for $300.
It came with a Filrite 15 GPM DC powered so I had some versatility and put a car battery on it with a battery maintainer to keep it fully charged.
On his tank, I got a goldenrod filter set up from TSC and piped it inline with the hose (right on the pump). You could also order everything online for less money probably.
With a good inline filter, you can forego a Mr. Funnel. Keep your drum inside to help with condensation in the barrel.
6 Years ago, one could find some good deals on Craigslist but not so much anymore, BUT it wouldn't hurt to check it out.
I have had my steel tank in service for 6 years and never have any water in it. It is always inside a totally enclosed area.

The only thing I added to mine was some steel caster wheels (steel because I wasn't sure the rubber ones would hold up) and some fresh paint. My brother in law just put his on some timbers under a lean to shed. I don't think he has ever had a water problem and I doubt he has ever changed his filter in over 7 year of ownership. Likely it is about time to change it. I guess I should mention it to him.

That's the same pump I'm replacing. It came with a filter mounted on a 300 gal tank. All for $75. It worked ok, but had to take top plug out every time to prime it. Finally the plastic plug stripped out. I may get the rebuild kit with new vanes to rebuild it sometime to use on something else

Did it work for you when it worked? All I need is to fill up a 7 gal tank on my tractor. Trying to keep it simple and find a good pump.
