I am in the market for a wire winder to roll up several miles of barb wire. It seems that what I find are mostly made in either Canada or Australia with one made in the US.
The one made in the US does not look nearly as robust as the others but it is hard to get a good idea on its quality as the nearest one is 1500 miles away.
Has anyone bought and/or used a hydraulic or PTO powered wire winder that can give me an opinion as to how well it performed. Having gotten burned last spring on an implement that "appeared" to be good quality I am a bit jaded.

Here are some examples of what I have found. I may just have to fab one myself but for time purposes purchase maybe a better answer.

Danuser makes something like that.

DIY attachment using a hydraulic post auger might work. Much prefer using the FEL forward than 3pt attachment.

I have a Danuser Python wire winder that works well for me. It attaches to a post hole auger, there's a tiny shaft that pokes into the ground, and you tip it one way or another to wind the wire evenly. I've wound up 2 miles of wire with it and never had a problem. You can wind more than 1 wire at a time, and I have done that, but its a little simpler to wind one wire at a time.

I forgot to mention, I use my wire winder with my Bobcat skidloader, it might be a little more difficult to turn back to watch it from the back of a tractor but you could still tip it forward and back and wind the wire up evenly.

I just use a scrap piece of 2 3/8" pipe in my PHD. I weld a heavy piece of rebar at the tip, so i can stab it into the ground. I tie a heavy piece of steel to the far end of the wire and just reel it in with the PHD running at idle speed. As I reel it in, i'll slightly lean the pipe to and fro, so the wire doesn't just make one big ball and I use most of the pipe. I just toss the pipe with the wire on it, when I'm done.

I had a belt drive one a long time ago. mounted on the side of the old tractor and ran from a short belt to the pulley. Heavy made and worked perfect. Factory made in the usa.

The neighbor to the south has a few "donuts" of wound up barbed wire. From a distance they look like big chocolate donuts. They were not created by anything shown on this post. The center hole is big as a 55 gallon barrel. It's not the old barbed wire either. "Old wire" used flat wire to make the barbs - new wire uses round wire for the barbs.

Next time I see him - I'll ask about those old donuts.
