There's been quite a bit of past discussion about the lack of places
to obtain banjo fittings. It would appear that the same swivel
functionality could also be obtained by a hydraulic swivel
joint as sold by discounthydraulichose.com (likely others)

90° Elbow Swivel Joints

Aside from the price ($), am I missing something as to why these
wouldn't be a substitute?

IF you are referring to the discussion I think you are, where the poster finally decided to make his own...I think the major problem was clearance. The fittings you reference are quite a bit taller than a Banjo would be, and you would need to get a wrench on it to attach the pipe or hose after the fitting was screwed into place. But in theory, you are correct, you could sub a 90* swivel for a banjo.

Oh, and welcome to TBN:D

Another thing to consider is the fitting type.. some hyd connectors are pipe.. some JIC.. some ORB /ORF etc. Have to have a very specific type fitting .. and in most cases.. you can't swap between them.. etc.

Yeah, the banjos would be hard to beat for low-profile. I was
just looking at the mechanics of the swivel.

The hydraulic swivels appear to come in most flavors of
connections. I'm looking at BSPP'izing them to fit the
CCM TnT cylinder ports. Hopefully with the metric
adapter, they don't get too tall.

Thanks for the welcome. Given this was my first post
in two years, this is a testament to the quality of information
on this board. Haven't had a question that I couldn't dredge
up an answer to -- until now. Also just haven't had anything
to add, being relatively new to the tractor version of the
diesel/hydraulic machine set.

I used a fitting similar to this Surplus Center Item Detail . Exc. it was BSPP to JIC. I picked it up from a place called Diversified Fittings in Perry OH. The price was close to that of which you posted. It was and extremely tight fit to get both of them on but we did manage. If you are interested I can get you the information and picture later.
