For those of you who have metal bandsaws, and don't want to reset the vise every time you want to cut gussets or other 45 degree cuts (since few if any of these machines have "presets" that keep you from having to measure with a square every time, or at least scribe a line across the bed at "0" and "45" lines - here's a little project I've cut out but not yet welded (stuff happens, etc.)

If you build this so the blade end of the jig is a bit long, AND if you only use it on one saw, you can then place the jig in the saw with the stop firmly against the edge of the fixed vise jaw, and cut the excess off with the saw. That way, the end of the jig can also be a reference so you know where the cut will happen.

Hopefully some of you can get some use from this... Steve

just found this posting. I plan to make one of these for my chop saw.
Thanks for the idea.

Could have used this today. My saw gives me fits cutting accurate 45s

Dan, I hadn't thought about doing this on the chop saw - mine sees little use since I got a second (larger) bandsaw and PM45 plasma. In fact, my son has it ATM, so I'll have to wait til I see him to look at the possibilities; thanks for "enlarging the box" I "forgot to think outside of" :=)

Rio, what're you waiting for? Building one of those may be the LAST time you have to go thru the pain of resetting your saw :=)

(Ignore the fact that the PIECES of mine STILL haven't "magically" committed "weld-icide" without my help :=) ...Steve

In my defense - at least my 7 foot Gannon box scraper is almost ready to move the 50-60 yards of material out of the way of my shop expansion (that's my story and I'm stickin' to it)

I can see that jig being really helpful. My problem cutting 45's is that by the time I angle the guide and the follower, they don't line up well and therefore don't hold the piece very well. I can see the Steve Jig fixing that problem. Shouldn't take long to weld either.

Thanks for posting.

My 1600 Ellis cuts angles with a twist of the locking handle. Love the accuracy and convenience.

I recently made a similar jig using one of the cheap 45* set squares that have a flat edge on one of the sides. I had to make a small hook on it that hooks around the right side of the back jaw of the vice to keep it in place. No bolts or clamps needed. It works with either my band saw or chop saw. I haven't tried to post any pictures on this site yet and I'll post pictures if it is easy and I can figure it out. I made an adjustable jig a few years ago but can't find it right now.

I hope you figure it out soon. I have an extra set square and want to use it to make one.
