2013 LS U5030
Morning Everyone,
I would like to build a ballast box for the 3pt on my U5030 but cannot find any info in the loader or tractor manual to give me an idea of the preferred weight. I am thinking in the 1500-1700# range. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

How much can you lift? or better yet what is the weight of the BH that fits it?

To me that would seem like an offal lot of weight to be hanging off of the rear of the tractor as a counter balance I would think 1K and loaded tires would be fine but I guess that all depend how much you can lift. But what do I know I don't have anything but my 500# (maybe) tiller on the rear and no loaded tires, I just try and hold on with my but cheeks  as the rear gets light! But really I just haven't done anything yet so I am pretty interested in what others will have to say, because I know I have done some stupid things while moving large logs, I mean really large!~

I think that u5030 only lifts a couple hundred lbs more than my R4047 ... yet also weighs 500+lbs more than mine.

That said, I haven't found anything that'll raise my tires now with my HD 8ft back blade attached. I'm not exactly sure what it weighs, but I've got to guess 700-900lbs.

I would think 1000lbs would be more than enough for you.

I've searched the manuals (which are lacking in some info) to find the lift capacity. My purpose in the ballast box is to distribute the working load, especially when using the double bale mover on the FEL (approx 1509-1600#). Even with my box blade or 8' bush hog, I feel a ballast would work better and cut down in potential front end issues. I don't have a BH on this tractor at this time. Realizing that the perfect ballast ratio is going the vary with the FEL load, I would rather err to the rear end heavy side rather than too light.

Just heard from Scott Holland at RCO tractor that the lift capacity on the U5030 is 4039 lbs so a 1700 lb ballast could easily be handled.

No question that the 3pt will lift 1700lbs, but what he meant was what is the lift capacity of the Front End Loader. And that is 2650 lbs. What you need on the back is about 1000 to 1300 lbs depending on if you have loaded tires or not.. Remember when you are box blading you wont have your ballast box on there:) So a balanced approach to the weight is called for in my opinion. If you absolutely don't want to have the loaded tires then you should have a bit more on the 3pt. And of course the loaded tires don't do anything for decreasing the load on your front axle when you scoop up a big load of gravel, only the 3pt weight will help "unload" that front axle. If you had the rear tires loaded and 1000 to 1300 lbs on the 3pt you would have a balanced tractor that you would feel much safer on when doing loader work, and also would pull well when doing boxblading or other ground engaging work. Of course these are just my opinions...YMMV:)

Actually the U5030 uses the LL5102 loader, rated for 2900 lbs

My tractor requires 1100lbs Ballast for full FEL lift of 2700lbs. So yours would be quite close to mine. I also have loaded tires.

Ok, so maybe the 1300+ depending on whether loaded tires or not. then. Thanks.
