Yanmar EA 2400
Hello All.

After much research I finally ordered a 2400 with FEL, MMM and post hole digger. It arrives on Sunday.

One issue before it gets here: How heavy a ballast box should I be getting for the 3PH for FEL work? I have been offered a ballast box which is already weighted, with the top sealed but it only weighs 330Ibs. You can't add any extra weight except what you can fit in a recessed area on the top designed for a tool box.
Seems a bit light to me but the dealer said that is what they recommend for sub-compact tractors! Is that right or is he just trying to get rid of the ballast boxes he has in stock? He had a number of them lined up next to each other, all covered in dust!

How much weight are other SC 2400 owners using as ballast?
(Also, I won't be filling my tyres or adding wheel weights as the tractors major role is grass cutting.)

Thanks for your help

Mark

According to the loader manual the rear weight should be a total of around 430#. According to spec that痴 100# for the box and #330 in additional weight.

That痴 using their weight box. The weight should increase the further the center of gravity is behind the center line of the axle.

These are light tractors and honestly IMO you should add ballast to the tires. That will give you around 100# extra per tire, and put it right were it needs it. If nothing else it will give you extra weight for quick loader jobs without having to hitch up your weight box. My tires have ballast, and I cut my grass just fine.

I would also suggest that you load your tires. I used Rim Guard because it was available locally. My SC2400 is used 80% of the time to cut grass and have had no issues with my lawn and the extra weight from the tires. I also have a loader and do not use a ballast box. There are times when it would be nice, but I just take my time and if need be, carry a little less material

The ballast box I was offered is 330Ibs total weight, so maybe just a little light. I may be able to get it close to 400Ib by putting some weights in the tool box recess. I thought I had read other sub compact manufacturers suggested much higher rear ballast weights?

You are both fans of loaded tyres. It is too late for me to organize that before delivery but I will see how I go when the tractor is delivered and may consider it.

Thanks for your replies

P.S. I will post some photos when it arrives. I have chosen the new red color scheme rather than yellow!

put the money for the ballast box towards anther rear implement instead tiller box blade etc. me I have a 5' box blade and loaded tires and a tiller. you do need something on with the loader when moving heavey loads. My boys do a lot of engine work here and we use it to move motors around without something on the back its pretty easy to tip it over when there is a load swinging in the air

My tractor arrived Today. When I asked the delivery person about rear ballast for loader work he said it wasn't necessary! Hmmm.

Anyway here are some photos. It was put straight to work digging fence post holes.

OK I'm confused.
I wasn't sure what you were getting at when you said you bought it in red.
Clearly it's a ccy body. The bucket isn't. What gives?:confused2:

Hi Gods Country

The CCY 2400 is available in two colors:
SC 2400 = Yellow and Red
EA 2400 = Black and Red

In the US, Cub Cadet markets the SC 2400 but they are made by Yanmar.
In Australia, Yanmar sells the tractor itself as the EA 2400 but it is identical in every way except for the red plastic bits. (Cub Cadet don't sell tractors in Australia.)
Yanmar don't make mower decks so they just sell the Cub Cadet one. That is why I still have Cub Cadet Yanmar stickers on my mower deck.

Yanmar don't make loaders either but this time they didn't just choose the Cub Cadet one but sourced one from Anosung in Korea.

Hope that clears things up.

So I consider myself an honoury Cub Cadet owner.

Interesting indeed. I wondered if you were outside the U.S., but your profile didn't state where you were from, thus the added confusion.

Enjoy your new machine. They are quite handy.

P.S.
I kind of like the red.

Trust me if that loader is as strong as the one on ours here in america your want some weight somewhere on back

and I did not mean (because someone will bring it up eventually) the ballast box is a bad purchase or price I just meant why tie up dollars for weight. It takes as much work to put on a ballast box as a tiller or box blade and they both add the required weight the curl on the loader on mine has enough power that with the front wheels turned no weight in tires and no implement hanging it will lift the rear wheel up in the air so fast you wonder what s going on right up till the tractor starts to tip over. my first lil moment of puker power in it LOL

Enjoy that fine piece of equipment and I Like the red color
