Just bought 1958 one owner TO 35.,had recent overhaul two years ago . Gas engine that runs perfect. Today I changed oil and converted to spin on filter. When I took drain plug out, a steel ball bearing size of a marble cane out right after plug!!! Where could this steel ball have come from?

Most likely came from the governor. Time to pull the front cover off and check!

How big a job is that?? ( I知 no mechanic) what happens if I do nothing? Governor seems to work ok now .

Not bad. It may have been replaced already, but if you just recently found it in the oil pan, I'd still pull it apart and take a look. If your governor did indeed lose one of the flyballs, it's only a matter of time before it rattles itself apart.
