Kioti dk45
I have a Kioti DK45 with less than 300 hrs. We are in the process of having the front seal replaced and the mechanics tells me that the crankshaft, bearings and seal are all bad. Of course this means a lot of money to repair. By hours the engine would still be under warranty but we don't use this tractor that much and the time on the warranty has run out. I have found other links that show there is a problem with this engine doing the same thing to many of this model. I am trying to get as much info. about this same problem from as many people as possible to address this to Kioti. Any info. or questions please reply to the forum.

How does the mechanic know the main crankshaft bearings are bad? It's not clear how he would determine that during a front crank reseal.

Is the oil pressure OK? Was the tractor doing anything abnormal before this maintenance? Is there any operating or repair history that would indicate problems? If this was my machine, I would first be sure there is a real problem.

I would expect bad crankshaft bearings would produce low oil pressure and possibly noise. If the crank bearings are bad because of inadequate lubrication, the connecting rod end bearings would be suspect too, IMO. If the motor has been run with low oil pressure there may be excessive wear on the camshaft and its bearings too. If the engine has been run with insufficient oil you could have excessive piston/ring and cylinder wear too. Unless the factory just screwed up installing the crank bearings or those bearings were defective, you could have extensive engine damage. The Kioti crank bearings are substantial, much more elaborate than typical automotive main bearings.

I have a 2006 model DK45S with 400 hours and no known engine problems.

1st, welcome to TBN. We will do everything possible to help you fix your tractor issue. What links are you referring to that show your engine type has problems- this is the FIRST I've heard of ANY engine problems with Kiotis from the DK series. Yours is a DK-45, HST or not? What is the date of manufacture of your tractor~ determined through the serial #, NOT date of purchase?
Do you do all maintenance or is it done by a dealer? Is all fluid and filter maintenance up to date?
What do you use your tractor for primarily?
Any other particulars you can think of would be helpful to diagnose what is going on.

Thanks,

CM

Good mechanic should have told you an engine with less than 300 hours needing as you described surely would have recommended consulting with local Kioti dealer to see what avenues are available, seems to me there is an extreme amount of competition in this area as of now. BTW welcome to TBN

Where's the OP for this thread? Where is the detail of the engine already asked for?
And what 'area of extreme competition' is Damifino referring to? Engine rebuilds, tractor sales? What?

Sorry, but I'm just not buying the whole '...lot of the dealers that handled Kioti do not carry that line anymore.' statement. Bobcat did remove Bobcat tractors, similar to Kiotis, from their lineup, and certainly some Kioti dealers have struggled to stay afloat in recent years, BUT what has any of this got to do with a 'possible' need to rebuild an engine with low hours?
Show us some pictures of the issues with this engine, show us something to backup the story, please.:confused3:

Damifno,
Not sure how quoting me twice, in the above post makes any clearer what you were trying to say about competition?
Care to detail what you mean to say?

And again, where is the OP for this thread? Vanished into thin air?:confused3:

I know Kioti "lost" a lot of dealers circa 2010/2011 but I believe that was self-inflicted by Kioti USA making unreasonable demands on the dealers. I have no reason to think that product quality (in general or with engines, specifically) was a factor in dealer attrition.
