Bad boy mower with Cat Diesel fuel cutoff

The machine randomly just stops like someone turned the key off. Sometimes it restarts ok, but other times it just cranks and cranks. I have removed and tested the fuel shutoff selenoid. It seems ok when I use a jumper to it from the battery. I suspect it is a wiring problem, but the wires disappear into a big sheathed cable, so I don't know how to find the culprit.
My question is it ok to bypass the wiring system and run a switched line directly from the solenoid to the battery or the key?
Changing parts to find the problem is prohibitive. That little solenoid costs over $600.00!

If it’s a 1 or 2 wire solenoid, yes u can jump it..
If it’s a 3 wire solenoid NO don’t try..

Most fuel shut off solenoids have two coils, the pull-in coil and the hold coil. You need to apply voltage to the hold coil and then hit the pill-in coil with about 1 second of voltage.

Applying voltage to the pill-in coil a time longer than about 10 seconds will cause it to burn out. If you intend to rewire this, you will need two switches. One for the hold coil can be a toggle switch, but he pull-in switch should be a push-button.

If your fuel shut-off solenoid has three wires, one of them is the ground wire. You can use your ohm meter to determine what the wires connect to. The ground wire, usually black, will obviously read about zero ohms between it and the body of the solenoid.

The pill-in coil will have lower resistance than the hold coil.
