I am looking for a sprayer, either handheld or a backpack model that can spray 20-30 vertical feet. I don't really want gas or electric just something that will allow me to shoot insecticide up to my eves. We have cedar house and get overrun with carpenter bees in the spring and I always need to spray and am looking for an easier way. Getting a little tired of getting on the roof and leaning over - figure it is not the safest thing in the world neither....
Anyway any tank sprayers you all use would be of interest!
THANKS

I have some small fruit trees and needed a sprayer. I have tried several pump-up tank sprayers, and one backpack sprayer that you have to constantly pump. First, stay away from the backpack type sprayers that require constant pumping unless you want to end up with pop-eye arms. They wear you out quickly. Sprayers that you pump up to pressurize are a lot easier on the operator. However, none of the tank type sprayers that I have tried will do 20-30 feet straight up. And remember, straight up means its coming straight down on you. I ended up buying a tow behind 12v sprayer from TSC very similar to this model.
CountyLine® Deluxe Trailer Sprayer, 15 gal. - Tractor Supply Co.
It was on sale for closer to $150. It will spray 30' up with no problem and it has a boom sprayer for my trails. I run RV anti-freeze through it in the fall and spray it back into the jug in the spring. Works well.
Good luck with your search.

Spray distance is from the nozzle. If you can add ten feet of "spray boom" below the nozzle, a weaker sprayer might work.

i've got a hand pump 4 gal backpack sprayer. if you adjust the nozzle correctly it will spray pretty far. you have to pump it a lot. annoying but it gets the job done. it starts to really get annoying if you are spraying 4 or 5 tank fulls. i've had it for 20+ years. its a field king. i've replaced some parts along the way. i would buy it again in a heartbeat. whatever i paid for it 20 years ago probably has no relation to what it sells for now. places like jim-gen sell them and have spare parts.
i also have a one gallon hand pump sprayer i got from lowes many years ago. it was cheap and works well.

My backpack sprayer will shoot pretty far. If house is single story, you'll be fine. Two story may be too high. While backpacks require pumping, I've never found it to be an arduous task. I'd recommend a model with agitator to keep your spray solution well mixed.

Just make an extension using a 20 ft stick of PVC, 1/2 or 3/4.

A pressure wand extension might work also.

As pointed out, spraying straight up means that you are going to be hit by the falling spray. What insecticide do you use? I would read the label before deciding on an attack plan.

I was thinking that a hose-end sprayer might work, but I manage to douse myself when I use one in washing the exterior of my house.

Do you have a pressure washer? If so, could you apply the insecticide through the soap dispenser?

Are you planning on spraying the whole area or just the areas where you see carpenter bee activity? If it's just spot spraying, a ladder and an aerosol can or two of insecticide might work.

I got my backpack sprayer off of Amazon ,don't remember what brand it was but the reviews were all good.

What do you use for spray on those **** wood boring bees?

edit: i guess there's a filter for talking ^ about a hydo electric plant if you put a "n" on the end.

a tennis racket works well and is very satisfying.
