Hello all

I recently bought a CX2510 with the KB2465 backhoe. I am considering buying a ripper blade for the backhoe. Any thoughts on a good, reasonably priced ripper that would fit this backhoe?

BX-Expanded - $269-285 (link, link)
Bro-Tek Ripper/trencher - $390 + $130 for the trencher (link)
DR Ripper Tooth - $139.99 (link)

I believe I've seen mention of a semi-custom unit from Michigan Iron & Equipment. Not found much info for it on their website.

Are there any other options out there?
Anyone have experience with any of these on a Kioti backhoe?

None seem to advertise fitment. The Bro-Tek lists part numbers for the KB2365 backhoe. Does anyone know what the differences between the KB2365 and KB2465 hoe are? I presume we are only worried about bucket compatibility.
I like the look of the BX-Expanded unit the most.

I own the original ripper tooth from MIE made to my specifications. I used it quite a bit and made a couple of modifications. Based on my experience using it with a Woods BH90X and DK40SE, I’d say any of the models you linked would do the job of a basic ripper but the Bro-Tek has an advantage in ripping roots. The advantage is the serrated teeth and they are important in allowing the ripper to gradually cut roots that are too big or flexible for the backhoe to break with a single “curl”. I modified my original design by welding a simple piece of pipe to the face of the ripper so an uncut root did not simply slide up the ripper but instead was trapped by the pipe edge which cut a one inch chunk out as it rode up the ripper. Serrated teeth would accomplish the same effect. Big commercial backhoes are powerful enough that such a modified ripper isn’t necessary but our smaller TLB backhoes won’t always immediately break a three or four inch root so weakening the root with a couple of bites is necessary. That said, if you can weld, the DR ripper plus ten minutes of welding on a inch long piece of sch 80 pipe about halfway up the blade front would be cheaper and work fine.

Our Rippers, and all of our manufactured products, can be found on our Machinery Group website HOME | miemachinerydivision.

Hope this helps,

That said, if you can weld...

Sadly I cannot. Maybe it is high time I learn and equip myself. Have always wanted to..

Good feedback Island. Thanks.

I agree about serrations. By my view the BX-Expanded is the most aggressive there. I wonder what it would take to get it to fit?!
