I just saw a 2022 Cat backhoe listed at Toromont Cat for $223,000!!!!

WHAT THE..........

I priced out a brand new one in 2008 and it was $100,000 which I thought was crazy because a few years before they were $80,000.

And yet people around here still working for 1980 rates.

All specialized or construction equipment is way overpriced. I would like to get a mini excavator, but for the prices I am finding it isn't worth it. Back in February of 2022 my nephew put down a deposit on a Ditch Witch SK600 mini skid for using with his stump removal business. That model was chosen because it will drive through normal backyard 36" gates. In February it was $27500 but by the time it arrived in December it was $32900. And the option at that time was either take it for that price or get put back on the waiting list.

Cat has always managed to get more for their machines then any of the other brands. That's probably because a used Cat with similar features and hours will sell for more when it's used then the other brands. But I agree, it's crazy to think of what a contractor has to charge to pay for new equipment.

I paid $18,000 for my 1998 New Holland 555E open station, 2 wheel drive backhoe with 1,800 hours back in 2003. In hindsight, I should of bought one with 4wd, and probably a cab. 4wd is what I wish I had the most, but it is what it is, and I've still been able to get a lot of use out of it. Since buying it, I'm at 8,400 hours and still going strong.
