Don't worry about scuffing. The rubber on the outside of your hose has nothing whatsoever to do with the strength of the hose. It's the inner steel braid that gives the hose strength. The rubber is more to protect things from being scuffed by the steel braid than it is to protect the steel. If you wrap some protective netting around your hoses where they rub, you won't even scuff the rubber. The netting similar to that around the FEL hoses is available from Surplus Center.
BTW: If you want to have spare hoses, that's a great idea. I just don't want you to worry because the outer rubber is a little scuffed.
