My local dealer quoted me a price of $6800 for a backhoe installed on my 2538 (which I bought from him new last November). This is quite a bit more than I expected. Is it in the correct range. That quote is with a 12" bucket and I do not have any rear hydraulic remotes installed just the 3 pt. Thanks, John

That pretty cheap... there still will not be remotes added as they will tie it in the system. any 4point rigid mount is going to be up in that range and other than this model and the 4540 the backhoes run up much higher once you get to 45hp... if you really want a backhoe that's a solid quote. Id be higher than that

That sounds like a price that is quite high. My dealer only charged $3400 for the backhoe. I always assumed that price included running the hydraulic lines to the rear. My 2538 came with the backhoe factory installed.

You get them much cheaper coming from the factory installed because the dealer gets a break and no labor... that number is just a bare minimum cost invoiced to the dealer before brackets, pipeing, and margin... the backhoe added more than just 3,400 to that price... on the contracts its the easiest way to put them in on the online system.. mine does the same thing..

Now looking at that total though if 24,500 is what you payed for the whole machine that's about 3k less that that set up sell for so you may have got it for cost

Backhoes, especially those that include a subframe like this, are not cheap but they seem more inline than most stump grinders do as far as what you get for the money. Stump grinders cost like backhoes but there is far less in the way of hardware and complexity. Yes you do get the hydraulic plumbing to run the backhoe included in that price but it's not your usual rear remote kinda stuff.

JMO but id rather spend half that putting a 3rd function and brush grapple on the tractor than going with a backhoe.. with that 3k you save you can use a fraction of it to rent a backhoe for a week then keep up everything with the grapple from there... you would get much more use out of one... at least I would lol

Thanks for the replies. I have decided to just rent or buy an older backhoe if I find an old one. I'll just use the tractor as a tractor.
